Recomended twist rate for 30-06

Bullet weight will be 165-200 grains in weight, is there a recomended twist rate? Going to change my 270 into an 06 or 06 improved.

Traditional is 10" but an 11" would stabilize the weights you listed. Make sure that it is throated with a 1½° leade angle instead of the original .30-'06 3° leade.

Normal practice is to use as slow a twist as is possible for the bullet range you want to shoot. High BC, Low Drag, boat tail, design bullets will be longer for the same weight and need more twist.

Berger gives required twist for each of their bullets. Can't go far wrong to use their recommendations as a guide.

German Salazar has a ton of good info on the 30-06 at his site, www.riflemansjournal.com.

If this is going to be a hunting rig, I would go 1-10. It will assure stabilization and I doubt you will see any appreciable loss of accuracy compared to a 1-11.
