Recoil sensitivity as we age.

Quite correct. I have been having back issues with prone shooting. Scans showed nothing out of place. This year I have been shooting a Dasher, BR and 223 - and enjoying it. I will likley change to something larger for the longer ranges - but I'm not sure what - maybe a 260AI? It sure isnt going to be 7mm anything. I might even shoot the 308 in F-Open!

I love to shoot. But at 72, I gravitate towards the lighter recoiling calibers that allow me to spend a full day at the range. Have one son that loves the "thumpers" and the other that hates them. Go figure. At any rate the collection is spoken for. I just have to get them safes.
The boys and I have seen many scenarios where guys show up with a high-end brand-new "boomer" and over the course of 2 hours the groups go from the size of a golf ball to the size of a dinner plate. then they pack up and go home quietly frustrated.

Well, if I am able to get back to Africa this summer, my arsenal will not change materially.
I have a 98 Mauser with a two barrel set, 300/375 H&H, and a .500 NE 3" for the dangerous stuff. My guide is talking Lion and Cape Buffalo. Next question...?

That looks just like my left shoulder from last September. My right was repaired last February.
Most of my rifles have brakes on them.
What you’re seeing here is not a repair. It is what they call a a full reversal shoulder replacement. If you notice the ball is on the scapula and the socket on the humorous. Exactly the opposite of what God gives humans. But it works. Not as well as what God did, but livable. My fear, which the surgeon said is unfounded, is the ball coming out of the socket. That is why am cautious with it. Have I got back into splitting wood with an axe? Not quite yet but I will . I did question the surgeon at length regarding his choice of metals.
I hope you healed well and quickly.

I had a complete reversal replacement on my left shoulder the 3rd week of September, my rotator cuff tendon was torn in too and gone. All my chest muscles on my left were torn the bottom one 90% from the bottom up.
My right had a 28mm tear in the rotator cuff tendon that was repaired the 3rd week of February last year.
I turned 66 last November.

Gave up hunting 30 years ago. At 77 I still enjoy up to the 30-06 with a Limbsaver and rolled up shop towel inside. Mostly shoot .308 with heavy barrels and suppressed about 8-10 k per year. Getting more and more into .223 bolt rifles suppressed with accuracy in mind. Shoot pretty much every day on the range in my yard, out to 300. Whatta Hobby!

To answer the OP’s initial question, yes. I much rather enjoy shooting the smaller stuff anymore. When my grandchildren were starting to shoot, some were recoil sensitive. Thus, I invested in various .243 caliber rifles along with some .224 varieties. My big stuff has also migrated to the rear of my safe. Good Shooting, everyone. Teach a kid to shoot.

I'm 62 and have only been shooting rifles for about 5 years so I can't compare today with my younger years. I moved to a 7-6.5 last year in F-Class after I perceived that the bigger guns were beating my 6mm in the wind. I found myself wearing a heavy sweatshirt to take the edge off of the recoil. I have developed arthritis in my AC joint but I believe it is related more to the positional strain of shooting prone than to recoil. I now have a new rifle with a RAD for the upcoming season. Only time will tell if it helps me. I may also shoot more 6mm on calm days to give my shoulder a rest.
