Recoil Lugs

Doing a 6BR sporter syle rebuild on a Rem 700 action. Stock will be a HS Precision with alum bedding block. Would like comments on the pro's / con's of installing a Holland recoil lug instead of using the standard Remington lug.

The Holland recoil lug is real nice. It is pined for easy alignment when you take the barrel on and off. It has a larger surface area than the factory lug and it has duel draft angles which make it easier to pull the action from the stock. I like the one on my Remington 700.

It is definatly a better lug than the original, but you will have to chop a fair bit of alloy out of your stock to fit it, doesnt hurt the stock, but there is a bit of work in it.

Any after market recoil lug is better than the thing Reminton calls one.
Never have seen one that was concentric all the way around...

In reality, there's nothing wrong with the factory lug. Just surface grind it during the re-barrel.It can be pinned as well, which still requires the action to be drilled for the pin. Moot point if it's not a switch barrel set up. Save your money for bullets.

Mic the Holland lug to check how parallel it is. You may be surprised. I've used one manufacturers lug for sometime now and have found them to be out by as much as .0005', after they've surface ground them. As a rule, I now surface grind all new lugs and hold my parallel tolerance to .0001' or less. True, .0005' doesn’t sound like much but, stacked tolerances will add up and bite you.
