Recoil lug?

I have a bat b action that I am building a 308 Palma rifle on. My question is do I need a recoil lug or is the action bedded with the cut on the bottom sufficient?

I was told that I still need a recoil lug with this action.

Thanks
Nick.

BAT says that you do not need a recoil lug, and they advise against it..
I have a few BAT models with the bottom cut and never had a problem with not using a lug..
Pillar bed the stock and you'll not have a problem....

Thanks for the reply's. I was informed that anything with more recoil then say a br sized cartridge that I should add a recoil lug. I am glad to hear that I will be fine without one.

johara1 : when you say I have two. I assume you are referring to the rear tang. Is that correct? For the most effective use as a recoil lug should the tang be as deeply inletted as it can without affecting bolt stroke? or slightly above the rear portion of the stock?

The affirmation above is senseless. BR and .308 for instance have the same casehead diameter and, at equal pressuse, the backthrust is the same...

As Preache says, if the mnufactureris against it, they have good reasons to say that. The best place to withstand 'recoil' is as far as possible to the rear.

I bed them to the radius along the top edge in the rear, don't go any lower and i cut the notch for the cocking piece........jim
