recoil help!!!

I bought a new savage 116 bolt action in 300 wsm. I have a problem with the top bullet in the magazine sliding forward and smashing the nose on soft point bullets and it will brake ballistic tips off as well. "From recoil" Is this very common? I sent the gun back because they told me is sould not be doing that. Then they sent it back to me and said I will not be able to find a factory gun with out that problem in 300wsm. They told me it was a 300wsm bullet characteristic. And also they told me it does not affect accuracy at all. what do you think?

I have two 300 RSAUMs, and neither of them mash bullet tips. The recoil is not bad in any of the short mags. What is bad is the mag well dimensions on short mags. If you are mashing tips, seat bullets deeper, go single shot or get a Wyatt's box,or something similar if available) put in it.

My nephew had a Browning and it also mashed up the tips on the Ballistic bullets, made you wonder if the bullet would fly straight.

What is really wierd about the 300 WSM's is that they are usually light rifles, and they kick.

If you want to stop the bullets from being mashed, have a muzzle break installed on your rifle.

Shoulda bought a Remmy. Seriously though, thats gotta be a pretty good hammering to knock out the tips. Its probably pushing the bullets back into the case as well.

I seem to remember that 'smiths building heavy recoiling rifles used to silver solder metal strips onto the magazine walls right at the cartridge shoulder area to prevent the cartridge from sliding foward thus protecting the bullet tips.

Just a thought. I have no idea if that would work in your rifle.
