Has anybody rechambered a .260 Rem barrel to 6.5X55mm? If so, can it be done without setting the barrel back beforehand? On the face of it, there should be no problem, but the 6.5X55 has a more marked case taper up front than the .260.
If there is a problem in this area, I could specify 6.5X55AI instead to be sure of taking metal out of the old chamber. The rifle has been hardly used since rebarrelling to .260 with a long throat, so there will be minimal throat erosion.
(At the same time, I propose rechambering a 6.5X47L to .260 Rem without setting the barrel back. No, don't ask - I've got the right cartridges, but in the wrong rifles / actions!)
