rechambering 260 Remington to 6.5x55

i was wondering if anyone has rechambered a 260 remington to a 6.5x55? is this possible without setting the barrel back? any info is greatly appreciate. thank you

I believe the taper on the x55 case is too much and passing the reamer in may not clean up the 260 chamber near the shoulder area of the 260 chamber. I say this because the 6.5x55 is known to be a case with a lot of taper. I would need to look at the reamer prints to verify, unfortunately I only have a 6.5x55AI reamer print and the taper is blown out on that one so that print won't help you.

i appreciate the info guys. i was able to get ahold of some 260 ammo and new brass. the shoulder is wider on the 260 so i am sure it will leave a ring. so it looks like i will have to set the barrel back. thanks agian

well on another forum a guy had a long range rifle in 260 for sale at a reasonable price and its everything i want except caliber plus it was built on a long action. i already have a 6.5x55 hunting rifle and wanted a long range rifle setup for the same caliber as i reload already for it. plus i really like that caliber. i am probably going to just find an action and build one. i just figured i would check around first to see if it would work without setting the barrel back.

I have two Swede's, a 94 and a 96. I should have left the 96 original as it was very clean and original, but that was a few years back when they were just getting hot. I made a sporter out of it and even put a new Brux barrel on it. I has a composite stock and I use it as a wet weather rifle. My 94 was all hacked up when I bought it, so I had it restocked and reblued and use it for a carry rifle when making drives or hunting thick brush. Good luck with your project, as you know it's one of the best game getters ever made. Barlow
