I just picked up a Shilen barrel for a Savage its a 8twist ratchet rifled 26' Select match chambered in 223wylde anyone have any experience with this chamber? I have a 223ai PTG reamer with .060 free bore for 75-80gr bullets that I used to re chambered a factory Savage 223 9twist barrel. Would I be better off to re chamber this to 223ai or shoot it as is.

I would shoot it as is. I would also tend to shoot the longer bullets in it. I guess if you want to shoot lighter bullets try them if it works then keep it. If not then it would be easy to change it.

I'd shoot it as you found it. Did your rechambered Savage 223 work with the heavies to your liking?

Understand many .223 shooters use faster twists for heavyweight,75 grain & up) bullets for their competition needs.

The Wylde chamber,Bill Wylde) is designed to relably function in an auto feeding rifle,AR) and shoot accurately. The body is similar to the NATO 5.56mm chamber for reliable feeding and extraction. The throat is tighter and has a gentle 1.5 degree leade that eases the bullets to the rifling. It's a very good chamber and does exactly what it was designed to do. It shoots heavy bullets very well.

Your reamer sounds like it's a AI SAAMI based body and a longer throat for the heavier bullets. It may work very well in a bolt gun. You can always shoot the Wylde until it fails to perform, then set the barrel back and rechamber with your reamer. Barrels usuualy shoot great after a set back but not for as long a time.
