Washington has been a 'blue state' for about 40 years. The majority of the population is on the west side of the mountains, that is why it has greater influence in elections. Also the west side has most of the skilled and 'high tech' industries, the education level is different. The problem is not the citizens and voters it is the quality of candidates and ideas being offered for the ballot. Endorsing a person for governor that only has a GED and failed running a 2 person, small town police department is not a means to winning elections for state wide office. Now the Republican party is endorsing a recalled school board member for governor. Why can't republicans attract better candidates is the question. Governors Dan Evans and John Spellman were good administrators and also very good people, this type of person doesn't seem to be available to the republican party or is not willing to be a candidate. To cure the problem just placing blame is not productive, find a solution. Better people, better ideas and more discussion. In WA if you vote for anything other than the left side of the political spectrum you are essentially wasting your time. I still vote but I already know what the results will be. Having spent the last 6 months living in downtown Seattle and seeing how it has been essentially destroyed, I hear people saying that the voters will eventually see the error of their ways and change the way the vote. That is not true. The people who vote for the destruction of their cities are true believers. They are certain that theirs is the righteous path. When it fails they blame the other guy and double down on their stupidity.
Couple that with the fact that whenever the voters reject a new tax initiative Bob Ferguson takes the voters to court and wins (that is when new taxes are placed on the ballot which most of the time they are not), the violations of the 2nd amendment and attempts to restrict the 1st amendment and we are clearly living in a totalitarian state. Sad but true.
