Recent USPS Delays..When Did They Start?

IMHO, it started several years back; when the USPS decided to bust the postal unions. They stopped replacing retirees with part time help. $15 an hour here in Idaho (we got right to work several years ago), no benefits, and max of 28 hours a week work. Get to 30 and you are considered full time and get health insurance and a shot at retirement. When Biden took office, one of the first things I heard here was that they stopped drug screening. Marijuana is legal in 27(?) states. Any other questions?

One of our customers is a plastic injection molding company. As told to me by the owner's son, they no longer drug test employees and would probably even supply the drugs for the employees if it could get them to show up to work.

And I don't think anyone would like the cost to post a letter. Everyone complains now everytime a stamp goes up, it would be lots more expensive under a private entity.
Don't think it would cost as much to mail a letter if they quit letting non-profits and advertisers send a letter for pennies. There are many of these non-profits today, I get solicitations from them daily -- many more than 1st class mail that I receive. Many of them pay fat salaries to execs, but as long as they don't show a profit, they qualify. The advertisements I get also help fill up my mailbox. If you made these 2 types pay their way, our 1st class postage stamps could be cheaper. Also, their mail doesn't seem to get lost or take a long time!
I've also had problems with lost mail, slow deliveries, particularly the last year. The aggravating thing is that you can't get in touch with anyone who can help you. It's as though each P.O. is a separate little kingdom and there is no communication between post offices and even the Postmaster can't or won't contact the P.O. where your mail is stuck to get it moving. Seems there is no central authority that you can complain to that can do anything about your problem. Post Offices don't ever list phone numbers, so no help there.

I have family and friends that work for USPS. I have been told that many of the hubs have actual theft rings set up in them, some have been busted but many not. You cant tell me they don't have cameras everywhere, should be able to identify this.

2 years ago I was talking with a temp Postmaster in our small post office. I mentioned I thought about working part time for the post office as I am on SSN disability I can only work so many hours. The part time jobs were listed as 15-20 hours. She was a Union Steward and said that the problem is, no matter how good of a worker you are they force you to work almost 40 hours and if you refuse they fire you. This is a management issue. If you as a worker are a good worker, full fill your employment obligations and still get fired that is wrong. Then they wonder why they are short staffed.

Last, I bought a barrel from a guy a couple years ago. After 1 1/2 weeks no barrel and he had shipped it within 24hrs. It showed it went from the drop off to the hub then sat there without moving. We started an investigation and after 3 days the report stated the investigation was complete. No explanation of findings or how to resolve it. I called the USPS at this location, they could not give me an explanation but started another investigation, results the same. Seller refunded me my money and then the barrel showed up a week later. Box was damaged and barrel was all scratched up. I let the seller know and returned it to him. Crazy, how did that happen? Was the truck in an accident.

One thing we have to remember is we can still send a letter anywhere in the country for under a dollar. With electronic everything is that as important? We do not send gift cards, checks or gifts without tracking and insurance as things have been stolen to many times. Sad that is necessary.

The private part of USPS works very well.
From your rural mail carriers, the night driver that picks up all your small towns and the semis that deliver to the main hubs. I've done all three.Briefly rural carrier, fill in, job sucks, mine gets a xmas gift and free pulls out of ditches.
The government side of USPS plugs the private side.
The top management ,down the hubs are full of dunder heads.Scrap it.Maybe, let creepy Bezos run it.
Maybe a trial run, for a month or so ,send the private part of USPS in to the Amazon hubs.
At the same time let USPS run Amazon hubs.
Easy math

I sold well over a hundred items from my friend Keith's estate. Started shipping items in June. Most USPS due to flat rate shipping prices. I did not have any problems at all until the last couple of months.

My Sister was postmaster in St Charles, Missouri when Obama went into office. Around 350 employees. She had to have people from higher up come in and force some "folks" to work. They seemed to think they didn't have to do their jobs anymore.

Just wondering when everyone's shipping problems started recently????

Trying not to make this political.

It started on April 3 1860. It was called the Pony express. In 2025 it takes the same time. If you are lucky. Tommy Mc We did not know that would be the best we would get. Tommy Mc

So five days for a first class letter to a destination that is 6 hours away. But in the meantime I'm being to think its lost in the mail and how will I be made whole again

Mailed package to PA March 10 from Iowa. Just made it to PA today. Not delivered yet.

I'm disgusted with the USPS. EVERYTHING is showing up weeks late. This needs attention by the government now. DOGE, please help because apparently they are failing at their job.

As I mentioned before a family member works for the USPS. Talking to him yesterday he said if sending anything of value at least get it registered with tracking number. If sending money he said send Venmo or Paypal as it probably wont get their through the USPS hubs. Sad deal. And people are complaining that the system doesn't need any oversite.

It has its ups and downs like any system but it's ridiculous right now. Unacceptable when what usually takes 3-5 days is taking a month. I'm sure some are paying late penalties for payment checks arriving late when they were mailed at reasonable early dates.
