Received my 6mmWO

Hi, Wild bill, and thanks for the 6.8 info. Sorry the thread is about 6mmWOA which is a derivation of the 6.8.

Some Chrono results,

Last weekend I got out to the range to run some loads over the chrono. These were all fairly mild while I familiarize myself with the cartridge. There were no pressure signs in any of the loads. I really didn't shoot for groups, but did notice some differences in each load, such as poi changes between lower charges and higher as would be expected.
Range conditions were not the greatest. 40° with a 15 mph east wind. the range faces north and is protected by a treeline along the west side. This really twists the wind on the range, to the point where you cannot predict which way it will be coming from or going. The wind did not seem to be an issue to any of the loads tested. I was very pleased with the results as I do have good baseline for development.

All loads were in new sized Hornady small primer brass with Fed 205m primers. Moly coated. At 250 yds.

70g Sierra @ mag length with V-V N-540.
29.5g 2934 fps SD 22.2
30.0g 3015 fps SD 12.0
30.5g 3106 fps SD 10.7

105 A-Max @ .015 off the lands with N-540
27.4g 2603 fps SD 14.8
27.8g 2660 fps SD 16.5

107g SMK @ .015 off the lands with N-550
28.5g 2590 fps SD 14.2
29.0g 2620 fps SD 8.1 This was the most accurate load of those tested.

105 A-Max @ .015 off the lands with Varget
27.0g 2650 fps SD 18.4
27.5g 2688 fps SD 10.0 This was second most accurate.

Did you guys do any more shooting at 600 yet? I just ordered my upper from John. 12-14 weeks lead time still.

Have you guys tried any of the Silver State 6.8 SPC brass to form different wildcats? It is manufactured to a much tougher case head specification. Let me know if your interested.

I tried it. I like the extra capacity over the Hornady small primer brass. I gotta get more.

Finally got back to shooting the 6WOA again. Took the rifle today to a 3x300 competition and it was hot!

Major disappointment with my personal performance. Shot the following with, sling, irons, all prone:

200-14X,Okay!)
197-15X,Target repair several times, couldn't get the rifle's first shot back on zero upon return, dang !!! Overconfidence perhaps ???, not TRIPLE checking position perhaps ???)
199-12X,Bad mirage, but no excuse, I could have waited for better conditions)

Total: 596/600-41X

The platform continues to be an X-killer nonetheless, even with my poor performance. The set-up will out shoot me anytime.

Load used was R-P brass, reloaded 5 times already), 27.5gr Varget, Russian LR primers, SIE MK 107 Moly. I had reloaded this batch in February of this year. MC223's data shows it at around 2,700 fps. I wish it to be true, as I will be testing 27.8gr next.

I am sure this brass will not last much longer, the 5th loading found some primer pockets loosening up.

On a sour note, I tried some R-P LR primer brass with 105 Berger VLD Moly bullets touching the lands, same primers and Varget load. Could have used a shotgun instead. This is going to take some of my sleep time tonight. Have to find out why !!!

Presently deciding what to shoot for next weekends 2 day 6x600 match. It has been mighty windy over here for the past few months, not good.

I would really like to try either the SSA or Hornady SR primer brass with the Berger 105 VLD Moly and 28gr Varget. The Berger VLD has prooven to be an X-killer at 600 everytime in my 6BR, which by the way, ain't flyng much faster, hmmmm, decisions...

Till then, wish me good luck, or just good sight...... lol

Andy

SSA cases hold 1gr more of water. I've been buying 2000 cases at a time so I can't say personally but friends are getting 11 reloads.
I know this is about the 6mmWOA but on a side note John built a 6.8 for me 2 years ago. I'm getting 3000fps with 90gr Speers out of an 18" bbl. 335, 10x and 4198 work the best. The 6mm is ordered.

Here is some quick test results with SSA brass in my 6mm WOA.

Marv,

I coudn't make it to the range this weekend......... ;, So I've got the 28.0 grn Varget/Berger 105 load ready for next week, God willing.

I'm still amazed about the amount of powder you are fitting inside the SSA Brass. The N-550 likes to shoot at the limit, as you can see in your own tests. I'll be trying this after shooting the Varget loads and Berger 105 mollied VLDs. If I can get at least 7 accurate reloads out of the SSA brass with N-550, I would be a happy camper.

Will keep you posted,

Andy

Robert, I use a Shootin Chrony Beta Master at 15 feet from the muzzle. I verified the overall acuracy of my chrony with my freinds Ohler 35 in July. It was within 20 fps on either side of the Ohler.
The numbers are real. I have run some 105 Bergers in the mid 2900 and some 95 Bergers up to 3120 and a just under 1/2 in group awhile back. These are upper end loads and in higher ambient temps would likely be just a bit warm. I moly coat all my bullets so the pressures are moderated somewhat.
The SSA brass holds 35g water to the rim.

This years x-course national champion @ Camp Perry used a 6mm Hagar, similar to 6 WOA) and he was gettting around 3000 fps with 105s. I found it hard to believe myself, but others have verified it.

Chris

Not hard to believe Chris. It's a full 2 more grains of powder in the Hagar case. Carl Bernosky did awesome at Perry. No less was expected from him. Btw, he also owns and shoots a 6WOA just as successfuly. He has quoted it to be even more accurate than the Hagar.

Andy

Man, it just won't stop rainin. I got some 95 Bergers and N-550 just sittin there.
Andy, Any progress on the editorial you are working on. No pressure. LoL
Did I ever mention that I use a carrier weight,4 oz.) or that I load on a Dillon. Not that it really matters.
The overall accuracy of the 6mm WOA is pretty impressive. It gives a good feeling inside to know that so many are doing very well with the little cartridge.

WE have 6MM WOA interest and wanting to here and read more about this cal.
but for some reason cannot sign up on 6mmWOA web site.It will not allow anyone to register.

relictrader, I just looked at the members list, and you are there. Might want to double check your login name and password. They are case sensitive. I copied your screen name from the site as it is shown in the members list. I guess if all else fails, you could call John. ,309) 376-2288

This is UL # that I used.
It does not work.....could it be the firewall?...no! for I'm on hundreds of sites.

relictrader, did you ever get the site to work?

Been busy messing with the 223 and have not had much time for the 6mm WOA.
Any new owners with results or info to share?

Well I just tried & got nowhere. They may have dropped that feature, or need to do some 'site maintenance.

My WOA 6HAGAR upper arrived a week ago yesterday; hope to get to my club range,ASC) this coming Sunday to break it in, fire-form some brass & do a bit of preliminary load testing.
