Rebuild a Remington 7.

I`ve a Remington 7 chambered for the 7mm-08 Rem.
Would it work to buy a barrel and chamber it for one of the WSM rounds along with a new bolt and magazine follower?
Is the magazine wide enough?
I already have two extra barrels for it, one in 6mm Norma br and one in the 6-6,5x47 Lapua.
But the thing is that we are only allowed to own 6 rifles for hunting so it would be great if this would work.
By the way, did I mention that I live in Sweden?
Don`t you just love when the government decides what`s best for you?

That should never be a problem, and will work out very well for you.
One gun, lots of barrels for it, what's not to like.....

The M-7 uses the same mag boxes that the short action rem 700 uses so you can get the extended Wyatt's mag box and follower, then just open the bolt face up for the WSM and it'll cost alot less than replacing the bolt. But if you intend to keep the bolt and use the gun for smaller rounds also then after the feed rails are opened up to feed the WSM better then you may need to adjust the old smaller mag box to feed the smaller rounds well
the little M-7 can be built into a very nice very accurate rifle just as the 700 can, here is a pic of one I just finished, but its only chambered in 6x47 lapua

I don`t want to make any permanent changes with the bolt, I want to be able to use both the old barrels as well as the WSM.

Do you think that it will still feed the 6mm br and the 6x47 Lapua after the rails has been opened or could this be a problem?

Would it be possible to have two different magazine boxes, and just change them when you switch the bolt and barrel?

Can you help me with contact info for Wyatt? Do you know if he has a web page?

By the way, love your stock! and I also want to thank you for the tip regarding Joel. What a great guy to deal with, he`s about to make me a BR stock in maple. Will be awesome!

Rolf:

Without modifying the boltface, You have two options: For the model 7 Remington you can buy and fit a second bolt. They can be obtained from Pacific Tool & Gauge or one of their vendors IE: MidwayUSA. It will require some custom gunsmithing/machining. The second option is to select and action factory Savage or custom action that is available with multiple bolts and/or bolt faces. It sounds like you are from outside the US and these parts would have to go through an exporter. You might posibly with some luck fine a used model 7 bolt that could be modified. This option is not very likely.

Rolf,
The extended box won't work in the M-7 due to the placement of the trigger. All of our boxes extend to the rear and it would run into the trigger pin. The M-7 is nominal at best when considering a WSM caliber due to OAL. Kevin Wyatt

Thanks Kevin!
It`s to much trouble with the Seven action, unfortunately, because I think it`s a great little action and perfect for custom work. So I`ll leave it as it is.

I`ll wait until I find a used 700 SA and use this for my next project. Haven`t decided yet but I think I`ll chamber two barrels for it, one in 270 or 7mm WSM and the other in 325 WSM. Opinions??
