Rear Rest for BR Factory Competition

Anyone using a Holeshot rear rest as opposed to a sand filled bag?

Is a floating front tripod a better pairing with a metal rear rest
than a fixed bipod?

These are deep and serious questions I await some insights about!

There a quite a few competitors using the PQP rear rest (Holeshot) in ARA factory class, just as many are using a rear bag such as Protektor.

You have to figure the combination and what works best for you. I went through a plethora of bag, rest, bipod combinations before settling on my current bipod/rear rest combination.

I'd go with a fixed bipod.

I'm no expert but I surely hope these are "deep" and "serious" answers with "some insight" to your questions.

First off, I don't know what a fixed bipod is.

And I'm always going to vote for a ski type bipod shot off a cushioned surface. Regards the rear bag ... that is a broad category with some being suitable and some not up to the task. I wouldn't go rear bag with a flat stock. I use the slope to get elevation ... very little squeeze for wind adjustment. I center up with no tension in my bag hand and then manipulate the bag for my wind call.

I would characterize my bag as a pillow. Fill has been adjusted so the stock rides in a deep groove. I basically damn near do a pushup to drive that rifle down into the bag (yup, I'm prone).

That about empties my insightometer.

We have been through a lot of combos--for Factory Rifle in ARA we are about the last in our club on a Bipod --Most are on a front rest like a Randolph or other $$$ units.
We settled on the Mystic Bipod from EGW in PA--ski feet--very rigid Zero slop--that has worked well with a Protektor rear bag. I have a PQP mechanical rear rest--it works very well--I may wind up using it but for now am staying on my custom height Protektor--getting the sand in the ears "just right" is helpful.

It seems the easiest way to get solid and steady is a Randolph front and rear mechanical rest.
We hang with those guys but I am convinced they have a better mouse trap
Solid is King-- get rid of the play in your system
Give ARA two seasons and you will be right in the mix but you have to pay your dues
The bar gets higher every month.

Kind of aggravating after getting use to how an Arnold rest works.

That slop was easy to help--I simply removed the adjuster screws--clipped a small piece of plastic from the clip of a ball point pen cap you know the little plastic clip on the lid that holds it in your pocket--anyway a small piece of that shoved in the adjuster screw hole--run the adjuster in --it squashes the plastic against the threads and Bingo! That baby will adjust smooth as silk and Stay where you leave it--

Thankfully mine has no slop that I've seen. I did have a weird issue with it at one point but it was fine the next time I used it. Can't even remember what it was now.

I like the mechanical rear rest combined with my Rempel F-Class bipod but I shot just as well with a Atlas bipod and Protektor rear bag

Hard bottom Protektor bag with Cordura ears works best for me, tried a frieNds PQP and could see no difference in accuracy in My T1X, just have to try one out.

I agree about the PQP also with slop. I havd guys tell me "O Nooo, mines tight."
Well in thought that too until I invested in a 80x March optics and yes. Absolutely, there is significant slop in thr threads. Anc NOPE. Lol it cant be fixed . Most shooters never notice it due to loose setup on bench or lower power optics

I’ve owned 2 Holeshot/PQP rear rests, I won’t say anything negative about them but I prefer the Arnold rest better.

Something I noticed with mine..........

When I change horizontal direction it will move about another .25" the wrong way before changing. Had me going cross-eyed for a little bit. LOL!!
