Rear bag

I'm looking at purchasing a rear bag from Edgewood for my new 6mm Creedmoor rifle. My front rest is a Shadetree top on a Grizzly Bald Eagle. The rifle stock is a Manners MCS T4A. It would seem that the standard 3.5" height bag would align relatively closely with the minimum height on the Shadetree. I'm unsure on recommended ear spread. Any recommendations as to dimensions/options for the rear bag?

You need to find the bag height which gives you a stable, comfortable natural point of aim when you are in your shooting position. Let that dictate the height that the front rest will be adjusted to.

Yeah, although there's a little chicken 'n egg problem. This is my first target rifle so there's some settling in ahead of me. The "standard" height is 3.5 in whereas the tall is 4 in, so the debate there is is just over 0.5". Also, presumably the ear spread will dictate, in part, how the butt of the stock sits. The stock has a butt section which is parallel to the bore in one dimension and tapered in the other at the bottom.

Is there a measurement I can take off the stock for the ideal ear spread?

I guess I am wondering whether a lot of people who buy the standard height bag find later that they wish they had the tall and so end up considering the 1/2" spacer.

A few years ago I had Protector make a custom fit bag for my T4A. For just a few extra dollars you can get the dimensions you want to fit your rifle and shooting setup. I recall getting a flat top vs standard angled to fit the flat butt, I think 1/2 in ear spacing. You can talk to a fitting expert and get the custom bag in a few days.

I had a chat with Ryan from Edgewood. I'm going to take some measurements off the stock for him. He also said a flat top can be done as a standard (as opposed to custom) order.

I siliconed a piece of #50 grit sandpaper to a piece of 3/4'' plywood that I cut to fit the bottom of my Protektor rear bag. I also cut a piece of Luan Plywood that is about 1/8'' in thickness. Seems to have worked so far. My new Protektor front rest requires more height than their old one.
