Personally, I like it just a smidgen above the base of the ears. However, I also think that that place can be a "dangerous" place to have the stock ride. I believe that if the bag is even a little cockeyed you will get some horizontal. Laying flat on the bag, with the ears to "steady" the stock, would minimize that effect. However, it COULD cause some drag as the stock slides back under recoil, thus producing some vertical. A GREAT bag with A LOT of attention to set up will go a long way in keeping either of these situations under control. No matter how good a rear bag is, if it not set up correctly, "problems" will ensue..Like a lot of things, I think that it depends on your individual setup. In the past I have taped a piece of wood to the bottom of a butt stock to establish light contact with the base compartment of a bag, and for that particular combination I could not see a difference. If you have a bag that keeps your stock up on the ears I suggest that you do the same test. All it takes is a minute or two with a table saw to make the piece.
