Rear Bag Suggestions

I’m close to finishing up a rifle. It will primarily be a Benchrest rifle, but I’ll shoot some F Class. The stock is a McMillan “Hunter Class” Benchrest stock. I was thinking of a basic Protektor rear bag that tapers, but would like some input from those with experience with similar stock style. Thanks in advance.

If you like protektor call them up and tell them what you got and they will suggest one for you. Id use a tapered bag with a tapered stock tho if it was me. Does it have a flat bottom on the underside of the butt or is it round? Thatll tell you how may stitches you need

I’ll definitely give them a call. Certainly their sales dept can give some input. I’d like to get some field experience input as well. Given the thin round bottom and taper, I honestly think a Protektor 14A would be a solid bag. My other rifle is more suited for F Class and the DR BB flat bag tracks that rifle well. The fit isn’t desirable with the taper of this new stock.

let us know how it goes. sinclair keeps these bags in stock. adjust the sand in the ears til you can beat the stock in and settle it but it doesnt touch the stitch. they have the skips donuts in stock usually as well. use PMA bag wax or baby powder to make it slide good.

Dusty, any reason not to buy the bag with the super-slick material on the ears?
Not answering for Dusty, but I found the super slick material doesn't like the stock tape on my rifle, so I removed the stock tape and it works better.

There was an article by a known shooter (name escapes me) about types of bags and waxes, powders, silicon, etc. His suggestion was cordura without additives. He mentioned that, for him, the slide/track was more consistent. I’m leaning leather/wax, but I did find the article very interesting. When the more experienced guys talk, I listen. Thanks for the input. I hope to get back soon with results, Dusty. I should have it back by the end of May. That should give me time to fund a NF BR.

I just picked up a pair of 13B's on Amazon for a hundred bucks, delivered to my door. Son and I are using them on Bobby Hart long range stocks from stockysstocks.com. Both are 6mmBR.

One stock has a glossy finish, and sticks to the front and rear rests like glue. I see these beautiful custom finished stocks on this forum and wonder what they do to make'm slide consistently. So I ordered some ptfe tape with silicon adhesive to apply to the stock hoping it'll help. We're new to using actual front rests (not bags or bipods) and quality rear bags, Caldwell BR and Protector 13B.
Any advise on how to set up and use these would be welcome. We shoot off concrete tables and wood with carpet overlay shooting stations at local ranges.

I'm not trying to hijack the OP's post, rather feel this might add to knowledge being shared in his question also.

all you need is baby powder or PMA bag wax. it'll slide real nice.
