Like the topic says I'm looking for suggestions for a rear bag for my A-3
Sporter. Haven't been able to fine one that works good yet.

Get a hold of David Hurlbert, the manager at Protector Model: http://www.protektormodel.com/ He'll make you one that will work [provided of course you remove the rear sling swivel stud]. :)

I don't know what your wanting from it, but that stock is not going to ride the bags that well. I would use a bunny ear bag with no spacing between the ears. I just use a bean bag with mine, but I shoot it from a bipod.

A little tip... a friend has a Martini Cadet that has been re-barreled in .22 PPC. The buttstock has a steep toe angle like yours does, but because the forend had been changed to something wide and flat, he had been trying to shoot it with a very light hold, as if it were a modern bench rifle. He had vertical problems, big time. Another friend who is an accomplished schutzen competitor, has a rifle that has a similar stock, and he had told me that if he does not shoulder it very firmly, that he has vertical in his groups. I passed this along to my friend with the Martini, and his vertical situation was greatly improved. I see a lot of shooters at the range that have their front rests too far forward on their forestocks and who are holding their rifles much too lightly, considering how they are stocked and the calibers that they are shooting. For your situation, I would use a relatively soft rabbit ear bag, that has a hard bottom, and I would squeeze the bag to refine my aim.

Might not be exactly what you are looking for, but I love these little bags. It works perfectly with my McMillan A5.
