Rear Bag Spacing

There is no set rule that automatically gives the best fit. The problem is that different shooting sports want their bags to fit differently. In long range benchrest, it is pretty common for shooters to want the bottoms of their stocks to contact the stitches between the ears, while in short range it is common for shooters to want their stocks to be slightly above the stitches. Of course this is not absolute. Then there is the matter of ear height. Tall ears filled pretty full will bulge in their middle so that they can interfere with a stock dropping down between the ears as far as the same ear spacing would allow for shorter ears. IMO probably the best methods are to ask the bag maker what he knows about what would fit your stock, and combine that with asking people who do your type of shooting and who have the bag you plan on ordering, and the stock you are going to pair with it. Posting a question in which you specify the stock, preference as to touching the stitching or not, and the bag you are considering, including ear specification, might produce some useful information.
