Rear Bag "rider" for curved stocks

A while back I recall seeing an attachment to the butt of a stock to provide an outrigger type rod that would ride better in the rear bag on the bench.

I have a perched belly stock on a schuetzen rifle that I want to shoot from the bench, and that curved stock does not ride well in the bag.

Can anyone advise who might make such a thing?

Sounds like it might be time for a new modern day stock that's not susceptible to warping. There's a lot available, at a reasonable price.

I think that you will have to have one custom made.

A friend who shoots a couple of falling block black powder rifles, form the bench, told me that in order to not get vertical on target, that results from the butt stock design, he has to shoulder his rifles, to limit their rearward movement while bullets are in bores. I passed this tip to a friend who was having issues with a converted Martini Cadet, that has a similar stock design, and it made a large difference. Between that and a powder change, his groups shrank to less than half their previous size. Just a thought....

Dave - are you thinking along the lines of something similar to the bag rider created in this article (see very last pic)?

Yes! that is the photo I recall. Looks like I will have to first make a mock up and then find a talented person to build a finished version. This rifle is a custom Miller which sports a really nice AAA claro walnut stock, and I want the bag rider to look like original equipment...

Thanks!
