Rear bag rider for Choate stock

My dad has taken a liking to the Choate ultimate varmint stocks because he has bad wrists and these are the most comfortable for him to shoot. He's been shooting 1K matches with me, I convinced him to finally get a bald eagle front rest and he's been trying to use a rear bag, but these stocks are simply not designed for that. The bottom is serrated and about 1-1/2" wide.

Hes been after me to figure out a rear bag rider for him and I've been thinking about it and I believe I have a winner here!

I made it from 1" thick, 2" x 8" piece of Delrin. I had to grind the angles close to final dims then ran it through a fence router to flatten and true them up. The aft end is held by the existing 3/8"-16 threaded hole in the stock (for a monopod) and requires only one small hole drilled through the bottom into the rider to keep it from twisting.

I put a 1/8" radius quarter-round on the leading edge to not tear up the bag, all other edges have been broken by hand scraping. I wanted it tall enough to keep the wide stock off the bag ears and have it ride on the delrin only. Flat is 7/16" wide as it works out.

This was a fun mental exercise to keep stock modifications to a minimum and provide an adequate bag rider. Hope to get it out and shooting soon.

that will work nicely, I have the same stock I put a pc of round delrin on the bottom, drilled a hole through the bottom of the stock and bolted also using the mono hole, counter sunk the holes it works

I thought about using round stock, but I wasn't too keen on it being a pivot point for torque during recoil and wanted more riding the ears. It feels good in the bag, he's only shooting a 6rem with 105s anyway, so it should work very well. But, only testing will tell.

I built similar riders for my Choate stocks. I used double sided tape in addition to the bolt to aid in maintaining alignment.

High looks great do you have the measurements I would like to make one for a friend as a surprise birthday gift.....thanks

Heres the dims I made for these. Overall height of 2" could absolutely be taken down lower if needed. Of course you can adjust bottom width to match your bags.

I'm actually going to be listing this stock for sale with the front and rear bag riders I made for it.

nice job on that bad rider. I have one of the "ultimate sniper" Choate's on my rifle, ( well I did, I swapped it out for a KRG Bravo) as I recall they were made of a polymer called Rynite a polyester resin. I liked the stock myself, but I wanted something lighter for shooting long range silhouette.
