Rear bag moving

With wood the holes left from the points of the rest feet will close up to some degree from swelling- no so much with Trex and you will compromise the plastic coating that envelopes the composite to keep it from forever attracting mildew.

I thought Trex was straight extrusion molded polyethylene. It's a cored composite material?

I found this under the rear bag keeps it from sliding around.

That will help it keep from rocking but if you put shelf liner under it, it will be even better. Matt

The biggest problem with Trex is its smooth, hard surface. It is also more rigid than wood which tends to amplify vibrations. The best bench top material is 3" of poured concrete. Its mass tends to dampen vibrations.

Can’t believe no one has asked “what is the shape of Your buttstock”? Is some part of it hanging up on Your rear bag? Is it a Benchrest Stock with a buttstock that is parallel to the bore? All of the solutions mentioned work, unless Your stock is hanging up on the bag because of it’s shape. If so, that needs to be addressed. Some of us like used dryer sheets taped to the front and rear bag to help the slide. I personally like certain brands of dried out sanitary wipes, that I find are even slicker. I don’t like the mess associated with powder.

GOOD LUCK...RR

Kelbleys benchrest stock. Using dryer sheets but I notice i have to readjust the rear bag after every shot. Best I've been able to shoot is .165 with it moving around

Those old school "hunter class" style stocks are prone to causing bag movement. Remember back in the day squeezing the rear bag was SOP to traverse the bulls and get on target. First, are you sure the bag is actually moving - or - is the sand settling after each shot ?- which is very common on improperly filled bags. Second, if you have a lot of body contact with the gun it could be you moving the bag. I had the same problem with the rear bag moving in my early years of BR comp. and have went through multiple bags, donuts and fixes. Dryer sheets and other ancillary fixes were a PITA- an extra component to fidget with while you should be watching the flags and concentrating on conditions . If you have ruled out improper fill and body contact, and cleaning the contact surfaces every relay then I suggest going to the largest bag you can afford and fill the base with heavy sand. An Edgewood Gator solved my problem (really loved that bag) , a mini-gator also worked well. Because of back problems I am forced to downsize to an Edgewood Softy which works well if I am consistent in my shooting form. I shoot both VFS ( Leonard stocks) and Hunter Class - both free recoil and my rear bag does not need adjustment unless 1/ I am not consistent in addressing the gun - including trigger pull and 2/ failed to properly line up and square the bags with the target. So, what I am suggesting is have an experienced competitor watch you shoot to determine it is in fact a bag problem and not you.

First off I want to thank everyone that responded with things to help. I really do appreciate it. I tried multiple things and found the rear bag was making contact with the stock and moving it. I had it to far forward so I moved it way back. I then changed the dryer sheets and added a sandpaper under the bag. It now stays in position and the rifle tracks true as long as my face doesn't get in the way lol. Thats my next change is offset rings to help get face away from stock. Thanks again

Ok I'm really new to benchrest shooting, and I'm having trouble with my rear bag moving on the bench at the shot. Our local club benches are wood and im using a protektor bag. Everyone i talk to does something different, what is the best way to keep it from moving around? Thanks
Go to Dicks Sporting Goods and get a baseball rosin stick, coat the bottom of your bag. In benchrest other than unlimited class, you shoot from a front rest and rear bag and its to make sure you don't have a return to battery setup, like a single piece rest. Glue a piece of quarter inch plywood to the bottom and glue some sandpaper to that. Suggestions.
