rear bag movement

Ok thanks, if you were to free recoil would the stock come back far enough to clear the front bag and fall off and the barrel hit the bag or will the palm swell hit the rear bag ears stopping the rearward movement ?
Just curious
Completely free would probably come off of the front bag. I have to 'catch' it. Would not get even close to the palm swell on rear bag.

I had the forearm stop fully forward, which puts the stop 3" in front of the front bag edge. I now have it all the way back, which has it 1 1/4" in front of the front bag edge. This is a done deal. Rear bag stays put. I also don't get the radical forearm twist/jump that I had before. All of these forces have to still be there, but they are contained/absorbed now with the rests farther apart. Maybe this winter I'll spend some time to understand the whys and how comes, but not now. Thanks, Dave
What may be happening is the gun is nose heavy, nose heavy for sure can cause the gun to "kick up" in the rear and possibly your bag problem. Moving the foreend stop will help this nose heavy situation. Won't cure it but will help.

I’d verify bag is sitting perfectly flat. If not you’ll need this:
I have this. Some bags "belly" on the bottom and it won't grab on the edges. I'd rough up the wood where it sits also.
I also make sure the hock of the stock isn't coming back and hitting the bag.
I have about .5" of the stock out the back of the bag.

Just curious cause I am kinda new at bench manners.

Where do you put the balance of the rifle and how far apart do you place the bags.

I like to have at least an inch or two off the back bag where my shoulder is (I sit behind with shoulder perpendicular to the rifle). Usually I put the front rest as far forward as it will go such that with recoil the tip of the fore end will not go on the bag (ideally flush with the front of the bag). My reasoning was to have as much distance between the bags as possible.

I do get a fairly linear recoil as I can press back on the rifle with my shoulder and it will go back on target. But, sometimes it kicks 'off' and the barrel ends up pointing left and high. It still pushes back to point of aim. Rudder issue I take it? Or torque? Or balance. This is 6BR with 105's. And, yes, it shoots better if it stays inline with the target on recoil.
