Rear bag for Tooley MBR?

Wondering if anybody out there has a strong opinion on Ear height and spacing for a Protektor DR bag to be used with a Tooley MBR stock. From what I have been reading, you want the stock to run on the ear sides and not the bag surface, so would a 3/8" wide space be the way to go? Med height ears? I have a Protektor front bag with the 3m slick stuff on it- Do I want the rear bag to have the same material? Thoughts appreciated!!

The slick stuff on the bag is nice. Usually you don't need any other stuff put on the bag. Is it the Tooley MBR or the Tooley Shehane MBR? The Shehane version has a flat on the bottom of the butt. I like the stock to go to the bottom but have side contact with the ears. You can regulate that some by removing or adding sand to the ears. Matt

A shooting partner and I both have Tooley MBR's. We use the Doctor bag with the 2 stitch. We got a 3 stitch for a friend by mistake and it wasn't even close to working for a true Tooley MBR. I believe it would have worked fine for the Shehane version with the flat bottom.

Thanks. It's the McMillan Tooley MBR. Ordered up a Protector bag with the 3/8" spacing and mid height ears with the slick stuff. Getting warmer up here- ansty to shoot!

Just make sure it is the MBR TOOLEY with the flat on the bottom of the rear portion of the stock, I ordered one from McMillan and the don't make the mbr tooley no more , Just the MBR with a pointy taper like a hunting stock in the rear.

I'm not sure where you got your info. but I just called McMillan 3/24/16 @6:00 pm eastern time and confirmed that they do still make the Tooley MBR and that the Tooley MBR has a 3* slant on the bottom of the buttstock and it is a "pointy taper" as you call it. The flat bottom version of the Tooley MBR was made by Bill Shehane. I have made those for customers and I don't believe they track near as well as the Tooley version.

FWIW, Shehane calls his the MBR Tracker.
