Rear adjustable rest

image.jpeg image.jpeg Hi
There are many types or rear rests and bags but they are not what I would call light or flexible.
What I was thinking of was two smaller sets of a front FTR bipods with flat sky feet,s on fitted together with four shorted legs like the undercarriage of a helicopter with a roller bar or nub adjustment wheel in the middle to lower or lift the rear of the rifle altering its elevation.
The sky feet would allow the stock to slid instead of the rifle moving in the bag. The rest could be fitted to a anschutz rail that could be easily fitter to the underside of the stock. Light weight and maybe in two or more sections for easy transport.
For a rifle were a rail could not be fitted. You could use an extended butt rider spacer.
The hole of the rifle could slide back and make it easy to re-target the rifle instead of puffing up the rear bag or having to reach out front to readjust the front rest. It could be done a lot easily from the rear with your hand still holding the stock around the trigger using your other hand to adjust elevation like using a monopod. The hard part would be adjusting both legs at the same time.
See photos of below for my thoughts.
This would be grate for any type of shooting F/class, FTR, bench rest, or load development. Etc
Let me know what you think. Daft or good idea.??

Ok there are other rests out there. Heavy and expensive is not everyones cup of tea? I was thinking of something that's light and cheap that could be taking off on put in rifle slip.

Ok It could not be used in completions. Could be good for load testing, bench rest shooting and gernral prone shooting.

Fitting it to the rifle would be easy. Making the skys would be easy but how could i set some sort of adjustment up to alter the elevation of the rifle on the device shown.

What are your thoughts on this. I would like to keep it as clean looking as possible. Simple to reach simple to adjust.
Any help would be appreciated.

Andy,
I, along with some others, have been down that road before. "Light" doesn't help much over a conventional bag, especially in the rear where the recoil is absorbed. Next comes the cost. Ain't no such thing as inexpensive when it comes to a "custom" built rest, front or back unless of course you own your own fabricating machine shop. And back rests aren't all that popular as you don't see them being used (much) at competitions, or public or private ranges. You might want to take a look over on Rimfire Central as there are 4 or 5 "Rear Rests" up for sale. Those things just don't compare to a solid "One Piece Rest" (Pappas) that many Rimfire shooters use. And the ones that shooters use for Centerfire rifles are heavy and usually start at $200+ and can get up as high as $400. Just my thoughts and not trying to talk you out of your idea. Go for it, but have your wallet ready as it may well cost you more than it's worth.

Hi all

Yes it looks like a none starter as I have had lots of feed back from many other shooters as well as on this forum that they say they have also try something along the same lines and fail due to recoil and weight.

I would like a rear adjustable rest that is much lower than a Edgewood Minigater Rear Bag is high. I find you have to have your front bipods quite high to use a heavy Edgewood bag.
I like to set my front bipods as low as possible when shooing makes the rifle more stable in my option when using FTR bipods.
With that in mind I will still be fitting a anschutz rail to the underside of the butt. This will allow me fit any type of Butt plate design I want without altering the stock.
I would still like to hear from anyone that may know about any really low rear adjustable rests that allow my front bipods to a as low as I like.
