REAMING A CHAMBER

Why do I need to indicate the muzzle end of the barrel ? The bore isn’t straight. How about zeroing out under the center of the chamber end spider/chuck and just forward of where the lead will end. That way your bullet enters the bore strait so it can follow the crooked spiraling bore ? Thead the tennon and bore the chamber in alignment with the bore where the bullet enters the barrel is my understanding of best practice.
What brand barrels do you usually chamber? If you dial in under the spider how far out is the muzzle usually?

I personally haven’t chambered any barrels yet but the fact that bores are not perfectly straight is a well known fact that has been discussed here at length. I have two Rock Creek barrels , a Dan Mueller barrel , and a Wilson all waiting for me to get my lathe working. When my bank account roundtoits come in I’ll build my shop.

Them round tuits are highly sought after. Im looking for a bunch of them myself.
when you get setup and do some barrel measuring youll see the picture thats painted on the net of the wandering bore and snake shaped bores are hyped up way more than they are when you actually do the work. You still need to set them up that way but if youll indicate the muzzle end in first youll save yourself a lot of time since once you get them dialed in around the throat, a real bad example of one of the good barrels will only be out .020 or so, so if you start there even with a .001 indicator youll be miles ahead when you concentrate on the other end. Good luck and let us know if you have any questions. Also remember, gunsmiths have extra everything so that missing piece thats stopping you from chambering is probably gathering dust in somebody on here’s shop. Put up a wtb ad and youll save tons of money.

The missing part is the shop to put everything in ! I have a clausing colchester student 2500 waiting along with a Millrite milling machine. I’ve got a room full of parts and pieces to go with the machines. Problem is the actual building is a really big chunk of change and every time I get close something else comes along and takes the money. $8,000 transmission last month :(. My friend was going to let me set up in the corner of his warehouse after he evicted the guy renting it but the Chinese virus has stopped the eviction !

A shop is the biggest expense by far
