Reamer?

How many chambers is a reamer good for?
Is it worth getting a rougher?
What kind of pilot is best?
Thanks

The usefull life of a chambering reamer depends on how it is used, coolant/oil, feed rate, lathe alinement, ect., ect. I like removable pilot reamers, and most of those I have, are. You can choose the pilot that best fits the bore with the removable. Also, with a fixed pilot reamer, microscopic chips will get between the pilot and the bore scaring the bore right ahead of the throat. Removable pilot reamers will do this too, but not to the same extent as the pilot is free to turn with the barrel. A good reason to take ones time and clean the chamber/bore frequently while chambering, or use a muzzle to chamber 'coolant' system to keep the chips flushed out. Life depends , also, on who made the reamer, some I like, others you couldn't give to me.
