reamer thoughts for 6MM BRX

The Dasher has a short neck but the BRX is even shorter and you want to keep the heel of the bullet in the sized part of the neck. So this limits the bullet and free bore thing you better do your home work……. Throat advancement is over played …… i never chased the lands they don't move that much in a year. I moved the bullet out a little at the end of the year and accuracy fell off so i had to go back to the old setting ……. maybe Varget burns the throat more than RL-15……. jim

Thank you all, this is great for the novice looking to get into the 6BR improved rounds. I have been following the possible new factory 6Dasher brass, that may also help my decision. The wealth of knowledge here is very appreciated. Thank you for your thoughts and reasoning.

Johara1, does the boat tail have to be above the neck shoulder junction? Is optimal bullet seating always as far out of the case but still plenty of bullet for the neck to grip? Is there a diagram?
Thanks,
Dave

I don't care where the boat tail is as long as the heel of the boat tail is in the sized part of the neck, i'm using a bushing die. I don't use a a non bushing die anymore except to pull the neck down to the shoulder for neck turning………jim

GSPV,
I did in fact know that. I am a big fan of his. I have however found no evidence of a sense of humor.

Jim,
Does your bushing die size all of the neck or just a foward portion as a wilson does. I ask because keeping the heel in the sized portion if you(meaning I) want to engage the lands requires more precise demands on my reamer purchase than I've done this far. It leaves a limited field of play.

I believe Mr. O'Hara may be saying just that with his ".135+" mentioned earlier, but I could be wrong. My original thought was about the BRX. He said it had a shorter neck than the Dasher, I take that to mean it needed a longer FB than I was looking into. I will watch and learn and maybe even pay attention to the above persons with more knowledge than I have, which is limited. Thanks to all so far for your time and thoughts.

It only sizes down like most just short of the shoulder.this helps greatly with alinement. Even if it did size completely down to the shoulder you wouldn't want to seat that far down because you get a seating pressure spike when the heel of the boat tail would contact that area. with a bushing die when the heel goes through the sized portion you will have a drop in seating pressure when the pressure ring goes past the sized part of the neck. This is pertaining to jumping bullets mainly, seating into the lands is great and requires less free bore. this is why most get into trouble, i shoot one bullet and i know where it will perform but i want the flexibility to move around. I use a .135 free bore but i used up to .155 all work with Spencer (Vaper trail) 103's, 105 Bergers and BIB 104's……… jim

I got a 6brx reamer from PTG I can sell you. It has a .2705 nk and .140 free bore. It has done 10 barrels and all have been pre bored. There's nothing wrong with this reamer as its still in great shape. I'm selling all my PTG reamers and going with JGS reamers. I will have a decent amount of PTG reamers for sale here as soon as I get my JGS replacements. 80 bucks. PM if interested
