Reamer sharpen or grind?

I have a PTG reamer that slipped from my hand when removing it from the floating reamer holder and it hit the ways of my lathe. As far I can tell, one flute is damaged and possibly Another one also. The flute feels rough when I drag my finger across it.

Is it usually worth $$$ attempting to sharpen or re-grind or better of just buying a new reamer?

Please see attached pic of the damage.

I wonder if its the flute that cuts? If its on the leading edge rub some copper on the edge like flat from inside the flute. I cant really tell from the pic where its at. Use the copper like a stone. If you have doubts on it id just send it in

I did try to remove rough edges but the reamer finish is rough so I think it’s beyond my skill to attempt a repair.

The 2 top pics show the main damage which is on the flute that would cut the body just below the shoulder junction. The 3rd pic is the damage on another flute right at the transition from shoulder to body.

Who charges $75? And what’s the approximate wait time?

The reamer is a PTG but I was thinking of having Manson regrind if needed.
Thanks
I'd send it to Manson. At least there you'll get a yay or nay in a reasonable amount of time. Manson does a good job and in a timely manner.

I'd use this excuse to get a JGS or Dave Manson reamer.

Reminds me of the time I shattered a Rem700 factory trigger trying to lighten the pull weight...never been so glad to break something. The next week I was shooting a Jewell.

Something to think about, other than the fact that PT&G isn't worth dealing with even tho they've been in business for how long???:rolleyes:
A reamer is made/cut to a size say as an example .500 OD. You regrind/sharpen the cutting edges and that original size goes down?
Now you're at say .498 OD or close but smaller than when it was first cut? o_OIf it was me, I'd be buying new. ;)

If it's straight, yes, but with a tapered chamber reamer it's possible there's enough to do a set back.

no they push the tapers back and sizes are the same...or you can grind down the flutes and change is minimal..

I just got a regrind back from PT&G Saturday. 20 killer bee changing the shoulder and neck dimensions. $98 plus shipping because it was a carbide reamer. it's not the wait time that bothers me, it's the lack of communication. all of the sudden, it's just shows up in my mail box after no info for 5 months.

update.. my reamer is on it's way back to PT&G as the dimensions aren't correct and to top it off, I sent in a four flute carbide reamer and received back a six flute high speed steel. just sharing some info, not bashing
