Reamer rental

Just curious if ya'll have any reccomendations on a chamber reamer rental house. I'm looking for a .243 AI. Thanks

I have never rented a reamer.
I always just buy them.

My brother rented one once, and it stressed him out, getting things done on time.

Reamers are like underwear, you don't want to borrow, much less rent them. I have gotten very reluctant to even use reamers provided by my customers. It is an invitation to a lot of headaches. Experience is a brutal teacher.

When a customer brings me a rented reamer I explain the possibilities of what the outcome might be. If it's an odd chambering it's a hard sell to ask him to put out a $150.00 for a new one.

Inspect it closely and you decide whether it goes in the hole.

Lots of full chambers are cut without the use of a roughing reamer, I've never used one....

I have never bought a roughing reamer, as the gunsmth at Brownells talked me out of it 10 years ago.

I would assume they are like roughing end mills and cut faster.

I like to drill the chamber, boring bar the chamber, and then finish reamer.

That saves time, reamer wear, and concentricity.

I was happy to read that top gunsmiths also do that, not just back yard amateur me.

In making choke tube threads, I would be there all day with the reamer, if I did not break out the boring bar.

jjh: I'm a firm believer in contacting a reamer maker, Pacific, JGS, etc) and getting a reamer made to the dimensions you, emphasis on "you") want: throat depth, neck diameter, over-all chamber length, etc. You are then guaranteed to have a never used reamer with your dimensions, not what someone else decides is best for you. After the 'smith cuts the chamber & if you are sure you'll never use it again, it can always be sold, and you'll get back the majority of your cost.
