reamer rental or purchase$$?

From the Elk Ridge website:
$36 finish reamer
$10 rougher,required if chambering a blank)
$5 headspace guages
$12 shipping round trip

I rented a reamer once..

Once..

It was on it's last legs, had been refurbed 4 times... and was dull when I got it.

If you think you'll never use it again, buy one, use it and then sell it on Ebay.... they usually bring $75 or so if they're a popular caliber.

I mostly shoot "wildcats" so my reamers are all of those type.

Chris:

You give great advice..

I don't want to knock reamer rentals but this is one piece of tooling that really makes all the difference in the world.

Dave Kiff, Dave Manson, Clymer, and jgs all stand behind their tooling. They can't aford not to. Now make sure your gunsmith stands behind his work.

Starting with good action/barrel, good smith, and good tooling and you will get superior finished gun. It is too much of an investment to do it half a_ _ed.

"Buy the reamer".. O.K. I got that.. The barrel work will be done here locally by Brian at the Montana Rifleman. Here locally he is "the" man. Anybody ever hear of him? Thanks for the advise guys. tootalloutdoors

I believe Brian Sipe is the Montana Rifleman Company. He has taken on a tremendous project in putting together the Montana 1999 actions. He has had many hurdles to cross. I have built one rifle off one of his actions. It was a little rough but I knew that going in and for the price I was quite pleased. The finished rifle a .300WSM sporting a #2 taper Kreiger barrel in a McMillian Super Grade stock, pillar and glass bedded shots sub .5MOA at 100 yards. My customer was very pleased.

As for Brians barrel work, personally I can't speak to the quality. As for my dealings with him they have been very good. He has done exactly what he said he was going to do.
