reamer question

Hello all,
I have a 6mmBR build started and have researched reamers and also talked with Dave at PT&G. Is .075" free bore enough if I want to shoot the 105 Berger Hybrids and Hornady A-max's? It will mostly be eating the Berger 95 VLD's. That's why I went with the shorter free bore ( I did order one with the .075" ). Now it has me second guessing myself !!

I ordered a 6mmBR reamer w/ .060 FB from PTG and you can reach the lands with the 95gr. and 105gr. SMK, yet you can seat them back for a .030 jump and the bullet is still not into the case. You can always order a short FB and then purchase a throater to add the amount that you desire.

If it was me, I'd be going even shorter on the freebore. You'll be surprised how fast the throat wears and before too long, the bullets of your choice won't reach the lands and still have enough case neck contact. You can always go longer but you can't go shorter. (without a rechamber cut) Plan ahead.

rmist: You'll be fine with a .075" freebore for the longer bullets in the 6BR. One of my reamers (PTG) is 104" FB and although I have had chambers cut with it (one in the shop, "as we speak"), it is a maximum length in my opinion. At around 1000 rounds fired some bullets will not seat to touch and have enough of bullet/case neck contact.

Had another chamber cut with my 0 Freebore reamer, and as suggested, had the throat lengthened to?-------- you guessed it, .075". It is working great with a variety of bullets. That's another one of the many advantages of the 6BR case, a nice long neck to work with.

Fortunately for me, my gunsmith does have a 6mm throating reamer, but for the cost of $66 I'll probably buy my own. Used with the 0 FB reamer I can have any throat length I want.

Thank you all for the info. I will proceed as planned. Can't wait til it's done. It will be awhile yet before it's done, waiting on stock and barrel.
