Reamer question 284 Winchester

Does anyone know the item number of the 284 win reamer used for the 6.5 x 284 Lapua brass necked up to 7mm. I guess it wold be the same as the reamer used for Charles Ballards 284. I called PTG to talk to Dave but he was in a meeting. Just thought I'd ask. Thank you, Alan.

I can't speak for Charles's reamer. SAAMI spec on years ago .284 Winchester called for a .320"-322"neck. Todays brass is thinner. An expanded 6.5 X .284 Lapua case (using a Sinclair mandrel expander) then sized with a .309" FL Redding die. Then loaded with a 180 Berger results in a .3125" neck diameter. My .284 reamer cuts a .3175" neck diameter chamber.

Thanks Nat, that was one concern. The other was freebore for the 180 berger, and I thought I read somewhere about the Lapua brass being a different diameter than the winchester brass in the base area. I may be thinking of some other cartridge.

Winchester brass has a much smaller base diameter than Laupa (.500" vs .503"). Cut a chamber with Winchester specificaion and good luck with getting other brands of brass in.
Also if necking up or down - necks need to be turned to get them back round.

Lapua is bigger at the base than Winchester. I have seperate reamers for both. Hope this helps. ;D

I have the standard 284 reamer, it would be OK if this fella wanted to use up to 168 grain bullets and winny brass, but he wants Lapua brass and 180 grain bullets.
