reamer freebore

Curious if there is a way to measure freebore on a reamer that doesn't have the freebore etches with the chambering and neck?

The device is called an "optical comparator", or 'shadow graph'. Many of the 'higher tech' machine shops have one in their inspection dept. As an added note; Most machine shops today are concentrating on staying in business, not taking a one time, off the street inspection job. With the number of "SALE" adds I see from the industry suppliers, sales of tooling and components must be at an all time low. That means if it's not being sold, someone isn't using it.I think ENCO has had some kind of sale going on very day this month, so far (free shipping, 15%-25% off)! Checking a reamer would require a special set-up. It doesn't hurt to ask, or if you'd happen to 'know someone' on the inside , you might possibly get the tool checked.
