Reamer for Long Range Hunting .284 Win.

Folks,

I'm in the process of adding another barrel for my Winchester Model 70 Long Action, this time in .284 Winchester. From what I've read, PT & G is THE place to obtain a reamer for the Shilen Match Grade barrel I'll be using. Here are the questions:
1.- Will a reamer ordered to standard dimensions create a chamber with a throat long enough to allow seating Berger 168 and 180 grain bullets out to maximize powder capacity? OAL is not a problem, since I'm using a long action. If not, how much freebore is recommended in a custom reamer?
2.- Will a tighter than standard neck diameter enhance precision? If not, what neck diameter is recommended?

As always, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

The fastest and by far easiest way to get this info is actually call PTG as they will answer any questions regarding a chamber and even send you prints via email and discuss and help you decide. Very helpful place so much so that other than people on here mentioning other reamer makers I have never even bother looking for any one else for what I need. I use the 700 bolts they sell as well.

A standard reamer will NOT let you seat the bullets out where you want. You need to decide what you really want to do and call the reamer maker. You won't be able to push the 180s fast enough to use them for hunting so stick with the 160, 162 and 168s. You have a long action so you are going to want a reamer made for long range shooting.

I just had a long action 284 built for the taking of critters. My good friend and gun smith ordered the reamer with the 160gr bullets in mind. A 160 Partition, seated just on the lands (no jam), is flush with the bottom of the neck of the case. I'm happier than a kid at Christmas ;D. Once I get some range time in I'll post up. Life in general right now is being a huge pain in the butt! >:(.

My PT&G .284 Win and .284 Shehane reamers have .220 freebores that allow the following OAL when just touching.

Berger 168 VLD 3.130
Sierra 168 MK 3.120
Berger 180 Hybrid 3.275
Berger 180 LVD 3.220

Thank you all for the advice. After reading these postings and a few PMs from another member, I called Dave Kiff at PT & G and ended purchasing their ".284 Winchester Match" Reamer. Once the barrel if finished, I'll start developing loads with both H4350 and H4831SWC, Winchester brass, Wolf Russian primers and Berger 180 gr. VLDs.
