Reamer Advice

I'm going to be building a 6 Dasher soon. I have a 14 twist barrel here with not very many rounds through it. I would like to use this for my fire form barrel. I checked on Grizzly and they have a Dasher reamer with .060" freebore. Sounds like that may be about right for the 14 twist barrel. My new dasher will be a 8 twist and I am thinking something like .104" freebore for 105 gr. VLD's. I'm frugal, OK cheap, and do not want to purchase 2 different chambering reamers. I see PTG has 6mm throating reamers for less than half price of a chamber reamer. Would this be a good alternative? I tried to call Dave Kiff for this advice, but he was on the phone. I figured some of you guys would steer me right. Thanks!

Perfect! Just throat your competition barrel separately. That way you can set it like you want it. .104 is marginally short IMHO, so make a dummy round with the bullet you plan on setting it up for and throat accordingly. Just be careful...those throating reamers will be cutting before you realize it. Dave offers them that are adjustable for depth also, or use a reamer stop.

When you go back to Grizzly's website, pull up the Dasher reamer reamer again. Just to the right of the pic (where you have the option to add it to the cart) ... Look under that box and click where it says "additional specs - pdf". That is totally different neck & freebore specs than whats posted in the description. Which one is correct? Who knows?

OP..I wouldnt get a reamer for a FF bbl that is right ,,,and then,,,have to modify the FB to be correct for my "
match" bbls,,,,,get a .135 FB (.135-.150") and dont worry if it is a little long for the 60-70 gr bullets that you will be using in your 14 twist bbl,,,,,I would not buy the reamer anywhere but directly from PT&G (Dave Kiff),,,,he knows his stuff and will give you exactly what you want,,,,Roger

Interesting. I did not see the PDF link. Ad says .271" neck, print says .272" I'm not a chambering expert as yet. Is the freebore according to the print .104"? Perhaps Shiraz will weigh in on this? The more I read, the more confused I'm getting.

I tried to reach Dave a couple times but he was already on the phone. Then when he tried me, my cell phone did not ring and I missed his call. So 3 strikes and I gave up. The throater seems like a viable solution, but again not something everyone is in agreement on. The barrel I want to do my fireforming on will also double as a truck gun and a walk around varmint shooter. I currently have two rifles that shoot the Berger VLD's best when seated WAAAAY off the lands. So perhaps one reamer with the longer freebore would work fine for both rifles. In order to do that I need to return the Grizzly reamer and the PTG throater. I'm still waiting for a Dasher go gauge from PTG. I appreciate your input. LG.

I would guess it is their generic Dasher reamer. I bet if you call Kiff or his staff they could tell you what that part number is for.
