My brother lost his index finger down to the second knuckle from a fireworks mishap. The doctor wanted to remove the rest down to the wrist and said it would be out of the way and he would have better use of his middle finger. Months latter on a follow up visit my brother told him the stump was very useful, he got in to a brawl and stuck it in some ones eye and the fight was over.
Really bad timing!
