real world expectations from bergara b14 and vudoo 22lr

delving into the 22 long range world. assuming i would be using quality ammo that has been matched to the gun,, and by that i mean, making a trip to lapua and seeing if they will do their usual test. speaking of which,, will they only test their ammo?

i am reasonably proficient, i reload and have some custom precision rifles, prs or hunting style, i don't do any bench rest, i consider myself a sub moa shooter in untimed, easy positons like prone or bench but generally cannot outshoot my rifles probably.

so anyway, been reading and reading and reading,, the bergara b14 comes with a steel barrel and carbon barrel. has anyone on here noticed anything effectively different in groups between the 2?

i'm not super serious about the 22lr thing and will probably be a passing fad for me but i do have a 5000 rd case of older prime subsonic 22lr ammo which was made by ruag. if i could get 1/2 moa out of it in a 22lr set up,, my son and nephew could have fun with it.

am i being unreasonably optimistic?

i don't mind spending a bit more for a vudoo setup if it is worth it,, speaking of which, is there a big difference between the gen 1 and gen 2 vudoo stuff

i am almost defintely going to keep my eye out for a used setup, prefer something turn key that i only need to put on an optic. i happen to have a zco 427 that is currently lonely so will probaby use that. i'm not in a hurry. appreciate any input.

i have found a unbarreled b14 carbon and a nice krg chassis but then it turns into a project and i won't get around to it but i guess i could make it work.

You’ll get more responses if you move this to the Rimfire thread, that being said I have a gen1 vudoo in a manners T2A with a gen 2 razor 3x18 with a 18” mtu Bartlein barrel and it shoots pretty good, I just received a ATS tuner to play with… good luck with your adventure.

i just did that, i saw "22" and thought this was the sub forum,, didn't even see that rimfire section.

I have a carbon barrel B14r

Went through a number of high quality ammo brands, minus Lapua.

Eley club and SK Match shoot about the same. At 50 yards I’ve shot quite a few groups that will measure well under half inch, many that are one ragged hole.

I did run into an issue with a shifting POI with the carbon barrel.

The carbon 22 barrel is a tension barrel, it’s simply a sleeve over a small steel barrel.

It has to be tight and torqued to spec or it would shift POI. it still shot very well but it would move when it was very hot outside, around 90.

After a lot of frustration I torqued the barrel and the thread protector as well as marked three index marks on the sleeve and the steel so I can see if it moves again.

So far, and after shooting in both hot and now cold temps, it’s stayed put.

It shoots very welll, having said that I’d probably try the steel barrel given a second chance.

I shoot this rifle to 300 yards routinely and it will hang in there on a 6” plate as long as I make my wind calls correctly.

Having owned and shot the Cz457, b14r, gen 2 v22 Vudoo and Rimx, i would say the rimX hands down blows the rest away and is also the least known of all the repeater 22s. The magazines and feeding are unparalleled and are stupid accurate with a wide range of shoulder fit barrels available. The other three are all no slouches either and honestly are all great rifles capable of being stupidly accurate but the Rimx just blew me away in every aspect. Just my 2 cents.

Fwiw I’ve shot both benchrest and NrL22 with all four of them.

Also keep in mind that out the box the CZ is hands down the simplest and most effective setup. The other three setups are all 700 clones and as such your choice of stocks can affect how your magazines work and feed.

Check with each manufacturer for recommended stocks and bottom metal or expect to spend extra money on magazines or stocks that have adjustable timing.

Since you asked for opinions - my club shoots an informal 2-stage (100 & 200 yard) .22 match. It is literally a “shoot what you brung” match. 20 metal swingers @ 100 in 2 stages. The first 10 are all 1.75”. The next 10 start at 1.75” and get incrementally smaller, with the last 4 being .25”. All targets at 200 yards are golf balls. They are set on a rail and must be knocked off to count. The point of all this - I shoot Anschutz rifles. We have a mixture of Turbo, CZ’s, Stiller, and Vudoo. Those pesky Vudoo repeaters are shooters…dammit.

I am selling a ton of the Benchrest stocks for people using the Voodoo barreled action. They are super popular in the long range game.

You take that barreled action and drop it into one of my Revolution rem 700 stocks with the aluminum bedding block and you're done.

I cannot speak to the b14 but my gen2 Vudoo is probably the most fun rifle I have ever owned. I also have a Rimx that would be a close 2nd but something about the vudoo makes me totally neglect the rimx. I don’t think you would be dissatisfied either direction

What is the solution to a feed ramp / single shot loading tray to put a B14R barreled action into one of your stocks?

No, the RimX has an extractor that is screwed into the bolt face, and attempts at single feeding will eventually break that extractor. It's designed to be a 'controlled round feed' action, out of the magazine exclusively.
