Real Simple

I was at the range last week and someone was using a thin pad under his rear rest. I asked what it was for and he told me in is a non slip pad that holds the rest in place. Called it "Real Simple" and said you could get them anywhere. Try as I might, I can't "anywhere." Any help from your guys????

i make one wrap of rubberized shelf liner around an 1/8" board. maybe what he had was that sticky material that you use to hold your phone or coffee cup on the dash?

At a match a few weeks back, a guy used 4 x 10ish mesh drywall sandpaper under his rear bag. Thought it was ingenious, others used rubber pavers from Home Depot, cut into small pieces for height and grip

Besides being against the rules you dont really want anything under your rest thats not solid as a rock. Any type of rubber will let your bag move which as you can imagine isnt good for accuracy

The bottom of my bag has a rough surface but will still slide around when I shoulder the rifle. What's the solution to that?

What surface are you shooting off of and how much does your rear bag weigh? I've never found that the shelf and drawer liner let the bag move at all. As for the rules concerning having a piece under the bag, I don't know. I do see it used a lot on slick concrete benches at matches and never seen anyone questioned or disqualified because of it.

I don't see anything that prevents the use of a pad or piece of cloth from being used in either IBS or UBS rules. The following is a quote from the IBS rules. Maybe I am not reading it right.

H) Rests: 1) A front rest shall support the front part of a rifle: a rear rest shall support the rear part of a rifle; neither rest may be attached to the bench, the rifle, or to the other (exception - Heavy Bench rests may be one piece for front and rear). 2) Unrestricted rests may incorporate guiding means, and adjustments for elevation and windage in either or both components. Unrestricted rests may be of one-piece construction for front and rear. BOLD RED TEXT SIGNIFIES 2010, 2011 RULE CHANGES. II. Definitions 3 II. Definitions 3) The rear sandbag shall be a bag, or combination of bags containing sand only. Zirconium silicate, known as “heavy sand”, is allowed. No other metallic sand will be used by any competitor. A vertical spacer under the rear bag will be allowed as long as it incorporates no adjustments for windage or elevation. The vertical spacer shall not contain any protrusions, which can be inserted into the bench top or the sandbag. The rear sandbag shall not be contained in any manner. The rear sandbag cannot in any way attach to the front rest. 4) The front bag must be such that the rifle can be easily removed in the vertical direction without any front sand bag adjustment. The bag must also be designed to maintain a 100% contact with the bottom of the fore-end when in its shooting position. The cover and filling of the front bag shall meet the requirements described in paragraph (3) concerning the rear bags. The front bag shall also be a minimum of one half inch thick in the vertical direction within the width of the fore-end. I) Guiding Means: Any device, addition, contour or dimension on any rifle of any class, designed or adapted to co-act with mating or reciprocal features of a rest to guide its return to firing position so that it shall not be necessary to re-aim the rifle optically for each shot shall be conclusively deemed to constitute guiding means.

Rear bag is a large Baldeagle and very heavy. I don't know how much it weighs but it is heavy. Bottom of bag i rough leather. It will slid on either concrete or wood top easily if I lean against it.

Don’t lean against it . I never touch my rear bag . Never!
Only thing that goes under my rear bag is a bag stabilizer.
I shoot off a lenzi bag and lenzi stabilizer. It never moves at all .

If your touching your bag and it’s moving you might want to change your technique.

I see no difference between a bag stabilizer and thin sheet of other material.

I am not trying to argue with anyone and you guys certainly know more about this than I do. I am trying to understand what the rules mean. From what I am reading you can put anything you want under the bag especially to raise it higher if necessary, which might include a block of wood of whatever thickness you need.

Wet the bottom of your leather bag to help in keeping it from sliding on concrete benches.

shooting f class with my Protektor DR rear bag setting on top of my shooting mat, my rear bag moves consistently to the left after every shot. Any suggestions to keep it from moving?

Recoil is pulling your rifle into the pocket of your shoulder. Dont let it do that. Let it slide back and not touch anything. Sometimes people cut a hole in their mat to give it less of a chance to slide

I shoot nbrsa and last time i looked at the rules you had to have leather touching the bench. Thats why the stabilizers we use are made of leather. You put your bag on an otto donut stabilizer and if it moves you moved it on purpose or youre doing something wrong.
