Real expectations of surpressed 6br

NC/Br Shooter

So, I got the idea of trying this. The process of of obtaining one, I'm familiar with. What I'm getting at, is what kind of sound reduction can I expect by shooting suppressed? I want to shoot more at home and not be so loud on certain days, and certain times of the day depending where I'm at.
Is it the sound cut in half, a third, or a fourth?
How is accuracy affected?
Iv read where the load can be cut down to help with the sonic crack of bullet.
Any brand that jumps out as one of the best to use for 6mm?
What is the most used thread size to use.?
Thoughts please.
Thanks

Hi just started using a modarator on my br it takes the sharp crack out of it very happy so far this will be my foxing rig for a few seasons with 87 grain vmax first groups at 100 yards I run 24” barrel on my tikka no recoil worth talking about my setup weights about 18 lbs in the MDT chassis

5/8”-24 and a titanium 30cal can from any quality manufacturer. Run your standard loads. The reduction in noise and felt recoil are significant. It’s a lot of fun.

I run the same one on my 6 Dasher and my .22BR. 5/8 x 24 threads. In my opinion noise reduction is in the 80% range. Very significant, and all my rifles are more accurate with the suppressor on as a bonus. You can shoot them without ear plugs, but the sonic crack is still there so I almost always wear ear plugs. Once you get one, you will be saving for the next. Just be warned. Lol!

After getting my first one last year, I did a test to see just how quiet it was.

My goal hopefully was to be "neighbor" quiet for night time coyote hunting with super loads.

I had a buddy on the gun, while I moved down range, stopping off to the side at roughly 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards. Rifle was a 700 in 223, shooting 52 Bergers at 3400.

Shooting was in the wide open, and the impacts were into the ground at the base of the hill at 300 yards, to eliminate the sonic crack of the bullet from skewering the results down range. You could hear the bullet hit the dirt, then a split second later the report of the gun. It worked quite well.

Each yardage, of course, got quieter, and by 500 was almost imperceivable.

Here's the spot. Bench was set up at the 3 evenly spaced trees in the fence line, just right of center, impacts at the base of the hill. I was off to the right, out of the line of fire.

I shot one coyote this year 3 times at 150 yards, while a couple deer 30 yards further, just stood there watching the show.

A buddy and I are going to test several cans again one of these days.

When shooting my 300PRC at 2000 yards with a 338 can on it, my wife says it sounds like I'm shooting my 45 app in the back yard. The hill I shoot at is 1800 yards from the deck, but parallel to it

Ase Utra jet-z compact is what I use on my 6BRs.a little heavy but very good.cut the biggest thread you can on your barrel that leaves you a good shoulder.you don't want a small shoulder.especially if it's forward mounted..not sleeved back down the barrel.ive had deer stalkers bring rifles in with bullet holes through the side of the mod.inadequate shoulder on the barrel, moderator taken a knock when out stalking!.they tame recoil and can aid to better accuracy.ive used them for 25+years.ive shot multiple deer at range one after another.sometimes it takes them a while to realise what's going on.the same with foxes.i have different ones for different rifles.home made ones to.never leave the moderator on when not in use..crown,bore and bolt face damage will occur.i see it on a regular basis.it keeps me busy.new crowns, threads and barrels.enjoy them they are great .I wouldn't be without one.

Get a quality can and get the longest length/highest volume one you can stand to use (it will add length). That does nothing to eliminate the sonic crack, but it reduces the sound at your ear - not the sonic crack of the bullet. I have a 7" can that makes shooting a pleasure. I wish I had bought a 9" Thunderbeast instead. I have a shorter can I bought on a whim and a deal that I really don't like or use because it is loud to me.

Shooting alongside anything that will reflect the sonic crack back to you will make it sound much louder than in the open. The crack also seems louder when the humidity is high.

Shooting subsonic is fine if you don't mind ranging and dialing or using hold overs, or if you are shooting at known distances.

Remember you will be creating a long barrel on whatever you use the can on. I hunt white tails out of stands, and a 16.5" barrel becomes 23.5". I also prefer something that is titanium. I have one titanium and one stainless. I can really feel the weight at the muzzle with the stainless one

Some friends that shoot and hunt long range use a paint pin to mark the suppressor and barrel so they can tell at a glance if it has loosened.

Don't try to "scrimp" by buying something cheap. If you have friends with suppressors go shoot with them and see what it's like.

When you order one, go ahead and order a good rimfire can with it and you will really experience quietness.

But you will never regret owing one or more.

suppressors are overrated unless you need to be quiet. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t imagine not owning the few that I have, but its another piece of equipment/variable you are adding to your system.

this is my 300 rum with a silencerco harvest big bore 338 can. literally quieter than a 22 rimfire.

it’s a large can but it has modular threaded inserts and can literally suppress anything up to 338 lapua

My Omega 300 takes it from a very loud 'bang' down to a very loud 'crack'. It's definitely still hearing protection required, unless I was hunting out in the open on soft surfaces, taking only one shot.

I'd guess the sound travels just as far, just not quite as harsh.
