re33

Anyone have any input regarding this powder? I plan on trying it with a 338 Lapua w/300gr bullets. Not too sure where on the burn chart it fits in. Been using Retumbo but can't find any!

The R33 shot great in every 338 we put it in. It gave way more velocity and shot better then H1000 and Retumbo. It is slower then these. You will like it in your Lapua. Matt

It is sloooow, I just barely get enough in the 338 Norma without a drop tube, accuracy and speed area great. I have noticed that it heats the barrel up 3x's faster than H-1000. Has anyone else experienced this.

Running it presently in my 22-284 with 80's. Faster, more accurate and lower pressures than H-1000 and Retumbo in my barrel.

I believe that it was created for the .338. 74.5 grains in my 7mag gets 1/2-3/4-inch groups at 100 @3056 fps with 160 Partitions. I use Re25 for the most part, but when I use up what I have, it will be Re33 for me. I think that it shines more the longer the barrel and heavier the bullet.

Re33 is Swiss company Nitrochemie Wimmins AG's Reload Swiss RS80 with a new name and bottle for the US market. Nitrochemie shows it as equivalent to Viht N570 on its burn rate chart and in terms of Hodgdon products, it lies between Retumbo and H50BMG, closer to the former.

Here is what Nitrochemie says about it in its product booklet.

"Uses:
Designed especially for heavy-duty magnum cartridges, RS80 is our slowest burning powder. It was originally developed for .338 Lapua Mag., but works extremely well even with .50 Browning rounds. Optimized for temperature behaviour, RS80 displays excellent pressure/velocity ratios in numerous calibres.

"Standard calibres:

.338 Lapua Mag.
7mm Rem. Mag.
.50 Browning

"Powder Type:
RS80 is an extruded, single based propellant powder based on nitrocellulose. A unique impregnation method using nitroglycerine assures top performance. The powder contains a modern, lead-free de-coppering additive, making it suitable for contemporary lead-free ammunition."

This is the slower burning stablemate to Re17 (Reload Swiss RS60) and is a nitroglycerine infused 'high-energy' powder like the Viht N500 series. Like Re17/RS60 it uses the Nitrochemie patented EI deterrent infusion process to control pressures for longer than applies to conventionally coated kernels giving a substantial MV increase at peak loads and pressures. Most people on this forum would call it a double-based powder, but Nitrochemie says this only applies to powders that start with a nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine mix, and no doubt worries about negative connotations that the dreaded 'double-base' label brings to the table. Like Re17 though, if you use all of the performance benefits on offer, it will reduce barrel life compared to a cooler burning nitrocellulose only number producing lower velocities.
