Re Text Magazine Promos

I've added three text listings at the top of the Forum entrance. These allow users to subscribe to three quality magazines. The subscriptions are offered through Magazines.com. This vendor has the following promise, in writing: "Our customers will be 100% satisfied or they will receive a 100% refund for all undelivered issues, at any time, for any reason."

I think this is an opportunity to raise some funds for the site with minimal interference in the way the Forum works. We're still working on a significant site upgrade that will be quite costly. Hopefully this will help defray some of that expense.

We are also entering an affiliate program with Sierra Trading Post. Sierra, based in Cheyenne, WY, is a great outfit that offers deep discounts on over-stock name-brand merchandise. I have personally shopped with them for many years. They too offer a rock-solid guarantee: "100% customer satisfaction, guaranteed--If for any reason, you are unsatisfied with your product, feel free to send it back for a full product refund or exchange."

A percentage of sales generated comes back to this site. In order to track this, you need to navigate to Sierra Trading Post via one of their banners. You can always find a Sierra banner on our sponsor page:

Or, you can use this link: Sierra Trading Post Save 35-70% on Name Brand Clothing, Footwear, and Outdoor Gear!

I know guys don't like to see adverts on the site, but if we can enhance the cash flow, we can really do some exciting things on the site--such as sophisticated scope testing and barrel comparisons. Also, and this is very important--if I can be releaved of some of the burden of revenue generation, I can spend more time writing articles--which is what everyone wants.

Thanks again for all your support. Field & Stream, RifleShooter, and Shooting Times are all good publications, and the pricing offered by Magazines.com is very, very attractive.

It may not be worth much, but I have used sierra trading post for years myself. I have found them to be nothing but true to their word. I sent back a pair of boots that I bought on a cross country trip at the store in Wyoming. Wore the boots a couple of times, and they destroyed my heels. Not being one to ever take advantage of anyone, I called the customer service office, and with absolutely no questions they took the boots back for a full refund. I have since outfitted my backpacking hobby through them, and would be hard pressed to find 1) better service, 2) bettter deals 3) BETTER SERVICE!!!
Great move Mr. Moderator.

Mike,

Thanks for the comments re Sierra Trading Post. Yep, it is a good operation, and it's win-win for everybody--if you purchase stuff, they essentially give us a commission.

I've also added an affiliate link for Sentry Gun Safes, sold by WalMart. Same deal, a small percentage of sales comes back to the site. I'm not a big Walmart fan, but they do sell gun products, and the Sentry Line is good for folks looking for a smaller, entry-level safe. Bigger is better of course, but if you're on a tight budget, a Sentry is a smart option. If you bolt it down it offers much, much better theft protection than the "security cabinet" type products. Also, in some jurisdictions now, you are required to own a safe or keep trigger locks on all your firearms.

On my dial up at home the sponsor page looks very different compared to hi-speed at work.

Iam guessing that I have less than 1/2 of the pages content at home. I never could find the trading company until I googled.

The vendor tab, at home, on home page also comes up with something different than sponsor tab.

Must just be the pokey line connection times out but not sure on which end.

We have a bunch of ads on that page, so it's a heavy page load. Also, some of the banners are FLASH and you may not have flash enabled on your home browser. Likewise, if you have Norton on your home computer it may be blocking ads.

If you mean Sierra Trading--we just added that a couple days ago.

The sponsor page includes companies who have provided funds or equipment to the site. The "Vendor" page on left navigation is simply a list of shooting accessories/components vendors. Some vendors are also sponsors, but some are listed just as a service to our readers.

You might try FireFox if you are using Internet Explorer. IExplorer seems to cut off large sections of a page if one little image file doesn't load.

Thanks Paul

I have all of the stuff you mentioned... IE6, Norton...

If Foxfire did not take 4+hours to down load I'd give it a try.

Did I say I hate my dial up, it is all we are gonna have for a while. Verizon not intrested in upgrading, we're not important enough. We live in a valley just under cell line-of-sight.

Wildblue does not care to try and service us. Will have to relook another dish. Just hate the extra expense.

I won't complain anymore about the dail up service...
