When I successfully shot a 6BR in group years ago, my load was CCI Br4, N-135, Danzaced 66 Fowler jammed fairly heavy. Barrel was a Hart @ 22" & this load ran about 3250 fps. That was a really good barrel & would hang with the PPC's at the time. This was not a hot load, more mid-range. Hope this helps. Joe

Well, this morning this looks like an original post, but I thought I was replying to someone else. Was his post removed or what?

haha Joe,,,I agree,,,sumthin is goin on...your advice is good ...I would add to the answer to the original ?? and say go 13.5 twist...Roger

I would love to build a slow twist 6BR that would hang with the PPC...

For the 66 gr Fowler... That would be kewwlll....

Many have tried but, few have had success. Shortening the BR case a little seems to even the playing field somewhat but, the venerable PPC still dominates the short range group game.

Been shooting a 6BR 14 twist in IBS score competition with a 64.5 gr. Opel bullet set snug to the lands, 30.5 of N135 and BR4s. in a 13.5 lb gun. Seems the only thing keeping me from running with the 30BRs and 6PPCs is me.

OOOOOOOO.... I want one. I was thinking 13.5 twist.

I have Expipers old gun in 6 br and am having a riot with it. You will love the cartridge.

At first I wanted a 12 twist to have some room to manouver. But with Dan Opel's 64.5 bullet there are no worries for me with a 14 twist.

I was wondering if you guys could share your velocities your getting with the 14 or 13.5 BR loads your running. I shoot the PPC and want to see what difference there is.

potatoe that is a loaded question.. but i will try... my 6BR with a 26" shelen barrel..I have pushed 65 gr V-max's to 3,650 FPS but they were not accurate for me.. they shot best between 3,450 FPS and 3,500 FPS. my 6BR with a 24" pac nor 3 groove barrel most 65 or 66 gr bullets have shot well at 3,500 FPS.. my 21 3/4 " pac nor 4 groove i have been able to push it to 3,500 FPS also but it seem to shoot best around 3,250 to 3,325 FPS so it is harder to tune because you have to slow it down alittle for it to shoot well...but my 6ppc with a 22" kreiger barrel i have been able to push a berger column 64.5 gr bullet to 3,500 FPS out of it..and was not trying to i was just testing some over the crony and that is what is was reading..i was kind of shocked.. so i would say it not too hard to shoot 65 -70 gr bullets out of a 14 twist 6BR in the 3,450 to 3,550 FPS range with normal to warm loads. and some 70 gr bullets dont make as much pressure as some 65 gr bullets do.. I have been able to push a 70 gr seira BK out of my 24" barrel at 3,550 FPS it not super accurate but works very well in the groundhog fields.

Potatoe, if I knew the velocity of my load I'd share it with you.

I have a 12 twist and can shoot 58 V-max all the way up to 87 V-max.
I prefer the 70 Nos BT for prarie doging. Many kills at 650 with this
combo and once got all the way to 914 yd.

I had 2 of these built last year with barrels I had left over from shooting group years ago & a couple stocks (Winchester Marksman pattern) that I've had for awhile, plus a couple Defiance Rebel actions. Ronnie Long did them for me & as usual they came out really nice. I'll second the results posted above. My plans are to use these as intermediate range PD rifles. Haven't done a lot of load development, but hoping to find good loads with the 70-75 grain bullets for shooting out to 700 yards.

I have one of expiper's cast off barrels and it is shooting lights out. I have a feeling anything you get from him is going to be very, very good.

I just finished a build on a 6BR with a 22 inch 14T and a 27 inch 8T. The 14T seems to be as accurate as my 6PPC with a .088, 3 shot group, using 33gr Varget, BR4, and Berger 68. The new Kelbly trigger is super.
