Re-cut chamber neck?

I'm want to know if it's common to open up the neck diameter of a chamber? I bought a used barrel here with a .262 neck and would like it a little bigger (.270?). It needs the throat lengthened, but that I don't believe is a issue.
Thanks
Scott

I don't think it's commonly done, though it ought to be entirely possible with the proper reamer.

More often what are termed "throater" reamers are chosen to lengthen the throat when heavier bullets are used so as to maximize case capacity.

Are you opposed to turning case necks? Often it's helpful to take a minimum cut to make case necks more uniform in thickness...

If I might ask, what cartridge is this barrel chambered for? What's your intended purpose, target shooting or hunting?

It's a 6br. I did get 100 rounds of turned brass with it. I don't mind cleaning up the necks but .008-.009 necks are fragile. I will at least lengthen the throat for the 105-107gr bullets. Smith must have been short range benchrest guy.... Tight neck, short throat but 1-8 twist... Anyway it's going to be a f-class rig.
Thanks again

Scott,

All you need is a smith with a no turn neck reamer with a throat for 105's. I have had this before myself. First check your throat for seating the 105's it may be ok.
