Re-chamber/barrel 270 WSM to 7mm SAUM?

I have an extra 270 WSM, that I would like to change calibers on. It is a Savage left hand bolt.

Would the bolt face have to be changed, as well as rebarreled, I thought the cartridge head diameter was larger on the SAUM?

Also, who would you recommend for the work, any idea on cost? Thank you.

The SAUMs are all but dead, over shadowed by the WSMs. I've re-barreled several SAUMs to WSM for customers, because of ammo/brass availability. Bolt face is the same.

I like the fact it is a little more efficient, has some (imperceptible?) reduction in recoil, and longer case neck.

However, if the group consensus is that obtaining brass is too difficult, I can do the WSM instead?

Those customers I have re-barreled to WSM have done so because they travel to hunt. You're chances of finding WSM when your away are much better than finding SAUM ammo. You could do the 7mm but I'm unsure as why, you already have a .270WSM. Shouldn't be that much difference between the two.

Seems like there is 7mm SAUM brass available at most places. I have a few rifles chambered for them and never had a problem with brass being available...
A good reason to go to the 7mm SAUM over the 270 anything is great bullet availability...

My brother and I have had some trouble getting the kind of accuracy from the 270 WSM we want, and the 7mm bullets high BC, and slightly larger bore are attractive - just my opinion, and I like things that are a little off the beaten path, and unfortunately from what I have read about it the 7mm SAUM is that, but seems to be a very fine cartridge and is a little more efficient.

I would like to say, i appreciate the thoughts and posts, and have enjoyed my first thread here, nice folks, thank you.

My SAUM is very much alive! Best 1000 yard accuracy I have shot. NO problem with finding or using the Remington brass.

My point was if you're in BFE on a hunting trip and for some reason need AMMO the chances of obtaining WSM are better than RSAUM. Yes, brass or ammo can be ordered, but, if you're on a week long hunt you'd like to have your ammo now, besides, the Brown Truck may not deliver to BFE!
