Hey guys,
I have a Mossberg M1500 (Howa 1500) chambered in 243 my father bought for me when I was about 10 thinking it was a youth model but later finding out someone previously cut the barrel down to about 18.5”, I’ve had it re-crowned and it shoots ok for whitetail standards but I’d rather a 7mm-08 with a 22-24” barrel. I want to keep the rifle because of the sentimental value rather than just dump it it, its a gorgeous rifle. I’m curious if Howa ever changed their barrel threads (this rifle was made around 1985 or so) but I can’t find an answer anywhere. I know the newer rifle threads are M26x1.5 and I’ve heard gunsmiths tend to shy away from cutting metric threads. Any info on these older guns you guys can give me would be great.
