Re-barreling a Savage LRPV to 6BR

Has anyone re-barreled their Savage to 6BR? If so what profile have you used, from what barrel maker? I need to stay under 13 1/2 lbs. Large shank barrel

I agree with Mark...I have bought 2 barrels from Jim...they shoot dots!!
With the bull barrel and factory stock you should make 13 lbs.

I have a Mcgowen 300-350 rounds down the tube. 30" Long and finish an inch at the muzzle. 8 twist, .272 nk and .070 freebore length. Chambered with my personal PTG reamer.

$250 shipped. U S A only thanks.

PM if interested.

You are going to have to use a fairly short barrel if you are trying to make HV weight with the HS stock from a LRPV. What scope and mounts are you planning to use? A factory LRPV weight in at around 11 lbs. if you go to bull, 1" at muzzle, it will be really hard to make it.

I have a Target Action with 22" 30BR barrel in a SSS LVT stock with a T36. I have to take the caps off the scope to make 13.5 lbs for HV. Maybe you want 13 lbs for a different reason.

Luck, Tim

Thanks guys for all the great advise, very helpful. My Savage is (currently) a LRPV in 22-250, with two piece Nightforce rail, Nightforce ultra light rings and a Sightron 8X32-56 it weighs in a 13lbs 6.5ozs, with the help of an aluminum trigger guard and an aluminum bolt knob (Glades Armory). I'm looking to move to a 6BR in a bull barrel at 26", but can't afford to gain much weight (1 1/2ozs).

I have Shaw, McGowens, PacNor, and Shilen prefits for my savages. Plus a couple of Kriegers that a gunsmith chambered for me. It like my PacNor. I really like Shilens.

Since you know how your current rig weight go use a barrel weight calculator like the one below, determine you current barrel weight and then design your new 6BR. Tim

I have a pac-nor super match,a criterion and a few shilens and more than a few mcgowens. My favorite is the pac-nor then the mcgowens, then criterionnad shilen neck and neck. Why do you need such a long barrel? Is it for competition or varmint hunting or both.
