Re-barrel

I am always on road as a truck driver and need someone to educate the ignorant. I have a model 110 .308. Can anyone tell me if this is a large or small shank without tearing it apart? I would like to re-barrel to .338.

It is probably a small shank. small shank diameter is 1.055" . large shank is 1.120". you should be able to roughly measure the shank of the barrel through the action and figure it out. cliffe

I am going on the assumption that it is small shank since it is not a magnum. And I am also assuming that the .338 Lapua is a large shank.

While odds are VERY good your 110 is a small/standard shank (even standard belted magnums like 7RM & 300WM are standard shank), the fastest, easiest way to tell is to look at the barrel nut.

But there's another concern...

If you have a long-action 110 that came for the factory in 308, you need to pull the barreled action off the stock and see if your mag well is 308 size or 308 size. If it is 308 size, you won't be able to utilize a standard long-action cartridge (like 338-06) without milling out the bottom of the action.
