Rifle: Magnum Research 'Mountain Eagle Rifle .223 REM' Sako action - HS Precision stock - Krieger 26' SS Fluted #7 Light Target Barrel
Objective: Maintain caliber and accuracy but reduce carry weight
Options:
1. Return gun to Magnum Research for re-barrel to install MagnumLite 26' Graphite Bull Barrel 1 in 10' twist, I do not know who makes their cores
2. Send rifle to Christensen Arms to have the original Krieger barrel turned down and wrapped in carbon graphite
Questions:
1. Can anyone who has firsthand shooting experience with either manufacture's graphite wrapped barrels please give me some feedback on the accuracy of these barrels, any caliber)?
2. I do not know the current rate of twist on my Krieger,Krieger does not offer 1 in 10'), so what is the expected 'sweet spot' for bullet weight on a 1 in 10' rate of twist?
3. Can anyone who has had a barrel turned down and carbon graphite wrapped please reply with some comments regarding shooting results and weight reduction realized?
And last of all, please share any theories, opinions and or biases for and against using this barrel technology to provide lightweight and accurate shooting rifles. I would hate to reduce the current accuracy capabilities of this rifle as a trade off for weight reduction.
