Re-Barrel Advice

It's been a long time since I had a rifle re-barreled so I'm seeking some advice.

The rifle is a Remington Model 7, 223. I want to re-barrel in the same caliber with a 22" sporter weight (contour #2) barrel in the same twist, 12". Rifle to be used for varmint and predator hunting, accuracy requirements in the 1/2 moa range with tuned reloads.

Please advise on recommendations for a barrel brand. Thanks.

(Current rifle has close to 5,000 rounds and groups have expanded to over 1 moa with an occasional flyer. The action is bedded and this rifle in the past was 1/2 moa rifle with tuned reloads.)

You can NOT go wrong with 1.) Krieger; 2.) Brux; and 3.) Bartlein... These are all excellent barrels and you will not go wrong with any of them..

Long wait on most cut barrels, not sure you will be able to get a SS in that light contour. Brux does have cm barrels, along with Shilen, Lilja and a few others. Not sure if bencmark has. Look thru the contours available and settle on one and go from there. My Brux, Bartlein, Kreiger, Shilen Selct Match, Rock Creek and Muller barrels all shoot great, not much difference between them all. maybe I am just lucky.

Don't forget Hart. They can do the rebarrel for ya also. Great customer service and quicker turnaround than what I have read about some of the cut barrels. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the top shelf button or cut barrels these days.

You could go a Remage from Criterion and screw it on yourself. I have a Savage Criterion 8tw in .223AI that is sub 1/2 MOA.

Check Kreiger's on-line inventory. That reads like something they may have 'on the shelf'. Same with Shilen and Douglas. All are good accurate barrels. Don't shy away from a 9", 10" or whatever twist. All will shoot the light-weight varmint bullets just as accurately as the 12" twist for your purposes.
