1. President Obama has not banned all .223 Rem/5.56 ammo by way of Executive Order. Rumors to that effect are completely false.
2. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) has issued a proposed new regulation which would ban the sale and importation of m855 and SS109 ammunition that has a steel penetrator in the core of the bullet. Though this ammo is commonly used for "sporting purposes" the ATF apparently seeks to ban it on the ground that it is "armor-piercing".
3. At this time, ATF is soliciting comments on the proposed regulation, which would ban certain types of 5.56x45mm ammunition, including surplus ammo and ammo produced overseas.
ATF will accept comments on this proposal until March 16, 2015. You can email or write the ATF that you oppose this proposed ban on certain types of 5.56x45mm ammunition. If you oppose the ATF's proposed ban, the NSSF has an online form that will communicate your opposition to the ATF as well as to your elected representatives in Congress.
You can find that NSSF form here:

Then when the thread gets removed, people get all upset. If you want to actually DO something about the proposed ban, use the provided links and write to the ATF and your Congress-persons. OK?
